How do Alnico II neck and CC Bridgematch up?

I am 99% sure I am going to go with this combo in my Mahogany body / maple cap guitar. I apologize if I am asking too many questions - but I am nervous making this decision when I am going to be buying 'blind' and somewhat deaf - so I am once again turning to the pros - you guys!

I am concerned that the output of the Custom Custom may be too high compared to the Alnico II Pro.

Does anyone else use this combo?

I am going for classic rock tone - I want Slash like tones, but also the ability to turn it up a notch as well...

Thanks!

Hey man! Don't worry about the output, other guys have used this combo with much success. The CC is similar to an A2P but very overwound.

You got the right combo for what you want. I have a Custom Custom now and will be getting another one for my LP. I too was in a similar dilema, what to get for the neck pickup. Lew graciously helped me out. From what I've been told, the A2Pro will go well with the CC. Don't worry about the output of the CC. It's not really as hot as it says. It's more of a medium output bucker, but boy does it sound wonderful.

I'm halfway to that combo in my Hamer Special FM myself. The Custom Custom sounds great in a mahogany bodied guitar with a maple top. i don't think you'll be disappointed.

How about an A2P neck and Custom bridge? Would that work?

I'm going to put Zebras on my Epi LP Trans Black, Quilt Top.

The Alnico II pro will work perfectly with the custom or custom custom. Nothing to worry about at all!!!!

Awesome.

I'll put zebra A2P/Custom on this:

Nice. The black is sharp. Snag some cream pickup rings too. That'll make it look real cool. Heck, make the switch ring and switch tip cream too. Looks like the neck ring has a crack in it.

I'm putting zebra a CC/A2Pro or PGn combo in this. The photo is the stock one you see all over the place. I haven't taken a picture of mine yet but it is the same color. My tuners are different too (sealed Grovers).

Edit: My pickguard has been removed too. First thing I did when I got it.

All reports are good on this combo (I think T4D uses them). I'll know in about 2 weeks when I get the new axe.

I had this combo in a semi-hollowbody and it was so good that I was offered a ridiculous amout of money for the guitar. If I get another semi, that's the combo I'll use; no question....

I'll say this again - Think about the Pearly Gates with the CC! I think the PG has a little more "juice" than the A2P (no offense - I know a lot of you guys love them). The upper mid snarl in the PG does well in the neck - and the two pup combo blends are awesome - truly very flexible. And the PG cleans up with just a tad of volume down action. Maybe my favorite combo...Fat yet crunchy, rocks and rolls! And I can do the Slash thing with just a touch of tone cut on the guitar.

Re: How do Alnico II neck and CC Bridgematch up?

Thanks for the info, Aceman. Dangit, now my mind changes again. I was pretty much going to just get a Jazz since I have one in another guitar and know what it sounds like with a CC but I keep hearing so many good things about the PGn and A2Pro...AHHHHHHH. This is like being thrown in the guitar room of your favorite player (for me, EVH or ZW) and being told by to pick one guitar to take home. Too many freakin' decisions.

Good thing I have another 5 weeks to make up my mind. These pickups are my rewards to myself for quitting smoking. 1 month quit = Custom Custom, 2 month = A2Pro neck, PG neck or Jazz neck. 3 month quit = Texas Specials for my Strat. In a little over a week I can get the CC.

It's not a crack but the previous owner kinda shaved a bit of it off or maybe he uses steel picks and strums so hard and so close to the neck pickup... yes, I bought it used and the owner is kinda too hard on it... the bridge pup ring also had a missing screw, but i replaced it already.

I had that guitar set up to the lowest action and man, my fingers are flying all over! i love the feel of that guitar so much! fast 60s-type neck, short scale, narrower nut width, low action...it's just perfect!!!

My tuners btw are BLACK kluson(?) :)

I never liked the PG in a semihollowbody... They're just a little too "bitey" for me....YMMV....
