How do firebird/minihumbucker pickups compare to regular single coils?

Re: How do firebird/minihumbucker pickups compare to regular single coils?

They sound like what you'd imagine a significantly underwound regular humbucker to sound like – not like a single coil. But they do have additional brightness even from that point, due to less magnetic coupling with the strings (because the magnets are the pole pieces, they aren't steel poled like a regular humbucker or P90).

It's a great tone IMO, as long as they are old school output and not the hopped up variants. The hot versions pretty much take away a lot of their unique character, and make them sound a lot like any number of regular humbuckers.
