How Do I Apply Lemon Oil To A Rosewood Fingerboard?

Re: How Do I Apply Lemon Oil To A Rosewood Fingerboard?

Apply generous amount to a soft rag and rub it in. Don't worry if it gets on the frets. It's not going to hurt them at all. It'll clean them up a little if anything.

What I do is get pure lemon oil from a health food store. It comes in a .5 fl oz bottle. If it is the first time cleaning the guitar I put a couple of drops on a rag, like desicribed above, and continue to apply and rub until I'm not getting crud off. If it is a guitar I own and clean regularly I put it on a Q-tip and apply a couple of drops. I rub it on about half way down, add a couple of more drops and finish. I let this soak in for 10 minutes or so and then rub it all down.

What are the benefits of rosewood to lemon? I've always used lemon and though I haven't had appropriate time to witness the long term effects...it seems to get the job done?

I've been using Lemon on my rosewood boards for a long time...no so much on the LP since I've had it a year and a half...but I've had my Kramer for the better of 10 years and have had no problems using Lemon oil on it.

I'd like to know the benefit of Rosewood oil myself, other than the name says it goes in the hole...LOL. ;)

I use a soft bristle tooth brush. Scrub fret board for a minute as well as the nut...then a soft cotton rag to wipe the oil off.

I've seen this discussion on other forums so I emailed both Godin and Schecter. They both recommend Lemon Oil and not huge mixed bottles you find with all sorts of stuff in them. That's why I went with the pure lemon oil from a health food store.
