I know it seems easy enough, but how do i know what one i can buy? I'd like to "upgrade" the plain looking one on my MIJ Jaguar Special.

Re: how do i buy a replacement string tee?

I know all about string trees. Do you wan ta tusq? They look kind of intrusive, but they work good. I have a round steel one I can send you FREE .Do yOu want a round tele one? I have some round steel tele ones too, if you want. I dilsike the roller ones, but have a bunch, I can send you one, or I have steel normal strat wing shaped ones, they tend to bind. Make sure to get steel, will a magnet stick onto it?

On a fender style neck (no angle in the headstock)? I'd go for staggered tuners instead. No string trees, for better tuning stability.

Re: how do i buy a replacement string tee?

I assume you mean string tree??

Never heard of anybody wanting to change a string tree for looks!

Any string tree you can buy will fit just fine...

Re: how do i buy a replacement string tee?

If you plant a string tree seedling now, it might grow big enough to harvest by the year 2525. :p

Re: how do i buy a replacement string tee?

How to replace a string tree in 12 steps or less:
1) Drive to Guitar Center
2) Go to the accessory/string department
3) Locate the string trees which are usually next to the pots and the left of the 5-way switches
4) Take the string tree to the cash register
5) Pay $3.99 for a pair of cast Allparts string trees that only cost .10 to manufacture
6) Drive home
7) Unscrew the existing string trees
8) Insert the screw into the base of the string tree
9) Insert the screw into the vacated screw hole
10) Insert a phillips screw driver into the head of the screw and turn in a clockwise motion until firm
11) Tune the guitar
12) Play said guitar

Or go the DIY route . . . in 1 step:

You can use any of them...

That spacer is stock on all of the "butterfly" style trees but FWIW, I take 'em off and toss 'em all!!!

I want the tree right on the headstock to get max break over angle...

Re: how do i buy a replacement string tee?

I clear cut this one from the year of our lord - 1975

Its got lockers - no holes drilled.

Re: how do i buy a replacement string tee?

just add enough length for an extra few windings on your next re-string, and take the tree off
i'm assuming you know how to re-string, of course

Re: how do i buy a replacement string tee?

Ordered these from Guitarfetish a couple of years ago for my Bullet Strat, works great and I like the looks of them better.

Hipshots...

There's 2 sheet metal plates that position the tuners in the correct position - pretty slick. Only minor issue is that I needed to kink the end of the high E string to get it in as the headstock is on the thick side.

Just as long as ya know- too much angle too soon will choke off your notes.
