I have been thinking about placing a Dimarzio Blue Velvet single coil pickup in the middle position of my Epiphone G400 Custom.
I've been looking for pickup frames, but I don't know how this would work. I don't know what's underneath the pickups, so I would probably need a special pickup frame. Or how does this work?
I’m looking for a Red Hot Chili Peppers-kind of clean tone, and I’ve read that the Blue Velvet is suited for this kind of music.
However, I’ve also come across the Seymour Duncan Phat Cat, which is a P90 single coil in a humbucker format. This would probably fit in my current pickup frame. It would also look better on my guitar; it isn’t as intrusive as a single coil, especially on a guitar that has 3 humbuckers originally…
What do you think about this? The Phat Cat is about twice as expensive as the Blue Velvet, how do they compare?
So the bottom line: a Blue Velvet, which I don’t know will fit in my guitar, or a – more expensive – Phat Cat, which will probably fit…
