How Do I get a megadeath sound?

I Have heard that Dave uses a Jb pickup and jazz model for his guitars but I listened to guitar that had screamin demons in it and it sounded like megadeath. I want that sound of the guitar, it sounds so solid and crisp, its rediculously sweet!


any suggestions?

There is a Mustaine pickup set, which has been described as the active versions of the Jazz and JB. BUT I would say that the only true way to sound like Dave is to play like Dave; pickups make a difference, but technique makes the song.

His ESP guitars were made of mahogany, if you wanted to rebuild. And of course, his pickups are the Mustaine set; I'm sure a few of the bros can direct you to somewhere that sells them.

So if I were to go to a dealer with Seymours I can tell them I want mustaine set and they will know what Im talking about? or do I say I want active jazz and jb?

Most will know of the Mustaine set, I'd reckon. More than would know what you meant by active JB and Jazz, probably.

If you want the classic megadeth tone, a regular jb would propably be your best bet, he has only been using the active Mustaine pickups for like 2 years or something like that, before that i think it was jb. :)

A JB into a high gain Marshall with a BBE Sonic Maximizer in the effects loop will do the trick. Trust me on this.......

Most his classic Megadeth stuff was a JB loaded Jackson V through, I believe, a Rocktron Phrophecy.

megadeth sound is cool, but too midrangey even for a guitar. they lack bass those pickups, get a pair of bareknucle warpigs :p

A JB will help get Dave's tone, but you can get close without spending money on pickups. Get a good tight distortion tone with the lows somewhat scooped out of it, plenty of mids, and crank your tube amp.

Are you referring to the JB or the Mustaine Live Wires?

The JB isn't short on bass, but it seems to have a little less low mids and a bit more upper mid bite.

The Mustaine Livewires have more than enough low end for any application.

Over the years I've seen his rig include that Marshall JMP whatever programmable preamp, then in later years the Rocktron Prophesy.

The Crate Blue Voodoo amps , I believe, were used by Marty Friedman

Dave did use a Custom for a while as well. Just to toss that monkey wrrnch in there for ys.
