how do i get faster!?

k.. i thought i had some decent speed in my playing..until yesterday! i was in tom lee music and there was a 30 year old dude there shredding like no ****in tomorrow. will my tremolo's ever get faster? how do i make my fingers move faster? is there any methods or excersizes to do? any help would be wonderful

Yes, there is a great method I know of. It's called practice like crazy!
Thats really the only thing I can think of...maybe get some good shred cd's and learn the songs are play along with it. I know that learning riffs from a CD has improved my playing by leaps and bounds.

thats a good idea.. i should get some more lead guitar books.
but say if i were to practice tremolos constantly with all my fingers until my muscles got soar everyday.. would that build speed at all?

i think that will help u get a little faster but you might still need finger coordination.

get a teacher, instructional video, start slow, work yourself up gradualy to higher speeds, practice a LOT.



this is the ONLY method of getting faster. there are no shortcuts, no "easy" way, no buts, ifs or whatever.

Ampthetamines do the trick.

A slightly less illegal way though is to use a metronome. Pratice a phrase or scale slowly at first along with the metronome, then keep on speeding it up in small increments. Don't move on to the next speed till you got what you're doing down perfectly.

If you're having to strain and your getting sore due to trying to play fast you need to slow down. Playing fast means playing relaxed. It takes time to build up to not having to think and grit your teeth to play fast.

Speed is the byproduct of accuracy. Make sure you know what you're playing, and you can play it accurately.

There are probably a million different exercies like chromatics and 3 note per string etc etc, but rather than practice them on an electric with light strings and a fast action, practice them on an acoustic. When you pick up your electric it will seem so much easier and faster (and it will be).

Just something that I work on.
