I stumbled on evidence audio cables. Tried one, heard a huge difference from my monsters, like someone took a blanket off my amp. To be fair, nobody else has noticed, and my bandmate who still uses cheap cables gets a huge sound out of a guitar that I hate and a reissue super reverb.

Rapco or Whirlwind, preferably with the "vintage cloth" covering because they don't wad themselves up like the rubber-coated cables.

However, there's other factors to consider, like the Dean import Mustaine and the Bugera head. I can't see spending more than $30 for a 30 foot cable to connect those two. If you experience a loss of highs, turn the Treble knob up a bit.

That's what I was getting at. Aside from the length of the cable (a long one losing high end) would a person really be able to tell the difference between an expensive cable and a standard one? It reminds me of HDMI cables that are advertised as delivering higher quality video, but it's just BS. Monster cables have a good warranty but do they really deliver sound above and beyond my Fender brand cable? Doubt it.

There is no difference between HDMI cables, as a digital signal either works or it doesn't. Instrument cable, being analog, can be different. That's the way I've heard it explained, so it's really apples to oranges in that case.

damn.. i just use what is available.. I have 2 braided cables I use.. Just recently put new ends on 2 with shrink wrap so it looks real professional.. For some reason 1 cable is dead. I just moved so maby something happened to it during the move.. In anycase, I have been to lazy to troubleshoot/fix and It was just a spare.. but it is purple and i do love purple

Instrument cable usually has a thin, conductive cover over the outside of the center conductors insulator (dielectric). It's black, you cant miss it. It's "rubbery" and easy to peel away and it needs to be peeled away otherwise you risk shorting the shield to the center conductor. Anyone who makes their own guitar cables knows this but if you normally don't, and just repaired an already made cable, you may not.

I had some 15 foot HDMI cables on my playstation
and video/audio issues
when I changed to a shorter cable of the same brand
those issues went away

just my experience
may have been weight of the cable pulling it

You had a PlayStation, hence you had audio/video issues.

I've got a 25 foot HDMI cable that's as thick as a high tension power line and I'm getting no audio or video issues.

I was just happening buy. This is excellent advice based on quality and the fact that they are easy to find. If you are a touring guitar player, that is everything.


If you have the choice, mogami are beyond sick and are, in fact, made on another planet. (totally true story.)

Having said that...if you don't have an extra and something happens at a show...you are at the mercy of whatever cable you have left.

If you are playing live, you want a nice cable with a robust lead. Anything can happen and you want your cable to be able to handle it.

EDIT: Oh...and...buy two of everything. \m/,

YMMV. I bought a cheap 25 ft HDMI cable five years ago on Amazon for less than ten bucks and it has been working perfectly ever since.

to be fair
I did add a HDMI switcher
with the same long cable into the switcher
and a shorter one into the PS3

the switcher may be doing some buffering or something

I like Spectraflex, Mogami, Planet Waves, ProCo and the Live Wire Elite. And...

One of the best inexpensive cable you buy are sold at Guitar Center...their Rapco Road Hog cables. They sell these as a loss-leader, usually the 18 '6" cable is less than $20.00 USD--much less. Very, very good cable at a bargain price. (Marked RH186.)
