I have a les Paul classic with a Gibson 57 and super 57 Stock. I like some of the tones outta the neck pickup but want to drop a set of Duncan's in it. How do I know what has a range I'm looking for ?
Re: How do I understand the specs on pickups to find the tone I'm looking for?
Welcome to the forum.
Some Duncans in that range are:
Seth Lover set
Antiquities humbucker set
'59 set
Greenie humbucker set (Custom Shop)
Joe Bonnamassa set (Custom Shop)
'78 Model set (Custom Shop)
I have experience with Seths, Antiquities and '59. I don't have experience with Gibson '57s, so I can't compare directly, but all are variations on vintage PAFs.

To know your amp, the usual tones you go for, and what guitar players you like the sound of would be a good indicator or what pickup set you should have in your LP Classic.
Gibson 57 Classics are most similar to a Seth Lover set.
In order for you to know what to throw into the bridge position, describe what your tone is now, compared to how you want it to be.

The Seths are probably sonically the closest. They will give the same sort of tonal footprint. But the Gibby 57's are 'Meh', and the Seths are 'wow'. You get more clarity and sweetness from the Seths, plus better dynamics too.

Its really going to depend on: 1. What style of music, 2. What amp, 3. What are you looking for that's different from the stocks (more output, harmonics, more modern sound.) I too have a guitar with this pickup combo (Les Paul Trad Pro II) and have been going back and forth on a pick combo. I'm thinking 59/Custom Hybrid in the bridge and an A2Pro in the neck.

Also, there are some tools around that are helpful (see link below), though they are limited in what they can provide (simply because we're talking about sound and even though the pickups have specific character, they will sound slightly different in different woods / guitars.
