its used widely in music, but i still havent gotten to nail it with an eq (i tried boosting/scooping the mids but its not just that, im not sure how to do it)

Wait, you mean the effect on Anthony's voice? It's the old radio/telephone EQ curve (Cut bass and treble, boost around 500-3K) and add a little grit/OD/Distortion.
