ive seen air brushed guitars and the design goes right over the pickup and the rings.
is there special paint? is the plastic prepped?

Re: how do you paint pickup bobbins and rings?

There is paint specifically made for certain plastics. But, if you are planning on using lacquer, you will be fine to paint over the bobbins and rings. Just make sure they are clean (use alcohol or paint thinner to remove any oils) and slightly roughened. And don't put the paint on too thick or it may disolve the plastic or curdle previous coats of paint. Thin coats and you'll be fine.

99.99% right GuitarDoc but what paint melts plastic? Sulpheric acid based paint? Foam maybe.

Use 1500+ grit sand paper so you can scuff the area but won't carve out trenches in your pickup. Clean with alcohol/paint thinner/brake clean, DON'T TOUCH, I've seen a car that was a 'come-back' where someone (unknowing) touched a clean surface and it got painted over and a finger print shown though, Anyone say 'Free Re-do'!? Regular spray paint will work just fine, I wouldn't put more than 2 coats on it though.
