reassembling a couple hybridized humbuckers, and i am dangerously close to the coil!
i've managed to melt and burn quite a bit of the insulation on the leads coming off of the coils

If there is room you can use alligator clips as a heat sink between the pickup and the solder gun.

That and tin the ends of the wires that you plan on connecting. That way you can touch them together and only need to touch the iron to them briefly to get them to bond.

This is why I preach about using flux. Twist the wires together, add a drop,of liquid flux, load up your iron with a bit of solder and just touch the wires. The solder should bond the wires instantly
