How do you store Pups and electronics?

When I pull parts, I put them in labeled zip lock bags and sometimes, I will throw in one of the moisture absorbing packets that you find in medicine bottles. My thinking is, if there's any moisture in the bag, it would be better if it was absorbed.

But I haven't noticed any real difference between those with absorbers or without.

Rarely, I will open bags and turn pots in hopes of reducing sticking wipers, but I have no idea if this makes any difference.

Interested in your thoughts and best practices.

The pots I've got online have always come in small press/zip lock bags, so I store them in those along with plugs, opamps, etc & then into a big Tupperware container/box. That then goes into the closet.

With pickups I store them in their plastic case & just for OCD sake I then wrap each case in an aluminum foil twice, then store them all together in a Tupperware container & then closet.

No added tiny silica gel bags to absorb moisture or anything.

I use dedicated drawers for components. For pickups I will either just store them in their case away from each other, or in drawers away from each other. Worse case scenario, if they lose some charge, then you can always recharge them.

Hank, foil is interesting. Does the aulminium do something specific?

Eh, don't know really, for one its non magnetic, I figured it would prevent any magnetic field leaking from a crack in the plastic cover from interacting with the nearby pickups when stored away for months/years. It's very likely not necessary but I just do it for my peace of mind lol

I just wrap, box, or case pickups then space them out in my pedal/pickups drawer.
As long as they aren't piled together or almost touching and pointing at one-another I don't think it matters any.

Magnetic fields go right through things I believe (right?), so the only purpose a case or box serves is that it creates a spacial buffer-zone.
I don't think you can seal a magnetic field with a non-magnetic material,,,,,,,,,,,but then again I'm a reeeaaal long way from being an expert lol.

Funny, bags in drawers creates space in between pickups, but I never considered the possibility that there could be some magnetic interaction over distance. I don't have boxes for most of my pickups since practically all of them are used, however I think I better go back and make sure that there's no magnetic interaction,

If you orient them so they all point towards one common direction and not towards each other then I don't think space matters much,,,,maybe a couple inches is fine.
Music stores always have them in their boxes stacked or end-to-end,,,,,,,,,and we know places like Guitar Center have true experts in the field working there. (cough)

If you don't have original pickup boxes you can get trading card boxes on Ebay pretty cheap, and they fit just like Seymour Duncan boxes.

What happened once was that I had swapped pickups & broken a high e string. So the extra length of the new string I had cut & placed on top of the dimarzio pickup case, when I picked the case up, the string had stuck to the plastic magnetically. Their cases are different from duncans & leave a gap sort of in the center all around the case. After that I tested it with a duncan case, it did have a crack on it & same thing happened with the string. So from then onwards I started storing the pickup cases in aluminum foil wrapped around them, not even a magnet would stick to it so I figured its safer this way. That allows me to store them on top of or side of each other without worrying about demagnetization over time.

Actually if ya wrap your cellphone with one, it blocks the network completely, reminds me of the movie "transcendence" lol

Ha, very observant!

I've got plenty of old strings laying around and looking forward to waving them at my pup collection.

I store pickups in pickup boxes, and small parts in oversize 'weekly pill' boxes with many compartments. Those get labeled on the side and stacked.
