i have a set of SD vintage stacks with the 4 way modin my 52RI clone ... i like it traditional for twangy / gritty ... it is the guitar out of all of mine that 'keeps me honest' ... pushes me ot be a better player when i use it for practicing
for live use, i mostly tune it open G for Stones tunes
one mod i've considered is pertty radical but potentially awesome ....
use the 3-way switch as a 3 position tone control by hard wiring specific resistor values into the tone circuit with the cap (dark - medium - bright) ... use the spot where the tone pot was for a blender pot for the 2 pickups

I’ve got two teles. I don’t really use them any differently than my other guitars, at least as far as musical style is concerned.
One is a MIM body with a Warmoth neck (oil finish) and a HRb and SM-1n. That guitar is tuned town to D standard and is only ever used with a bunch of gain. The HR doesn’t clean up well, but the SM-1 will back off quite nicely. The switch might as well be a two-position, because I find little use for the middle position with those two pickups. That guitar mostly stays dimed on controls. Only the volume control gets tweaked when I use the SM-1.
The other is a MIM 50s RI with a QP tapped set. The Push/push pots crapped out so I haven’t played it much lately (I probably ought to fix that). The switching setup makes the guitar wonderfully versatile, and with two push/push pots and a three way I had 8 combinations that were all useful. I had this guitar tuned to Open D and set up for slide for a while, and only within the last few months did I restring it standard with lower action. I really liked it as a slide guitar, too. I’ve also contemplated a 4 way switch for a “both pickups in series” mod. I’m afraid that would overwhelm me in terms of the number of combinations I would have, but I’m really curious as to what two full-on QPs sound like in series.

What did the push/push pots do and what comninations did you get from them? Is this a bucker equipped Tele?

Nope, tapped quarter pounders. The guitar is the one in my avatar.
Numbers indicate 3-way switch position. Each pickup is on its own DPDT that controls the tapped or full output mode.
1: neck
1: neck tapped
2: neck and bridge
2: neck tapped and bridge
2: neck tapped and bridge tapped
2: neck and bridge tapped
3: bridge
3: bridge tapped
A 4 way switch and some creative wiring could give me series versions of all the #2 positions above, but that's almost too many variations.

You can't have too many positions if you use them all, I'd say go for it!! You may find your new perfect tone! In fact, add a phase reversal switch while your at it!
As for Benbenben, tapped means to lower the output to 1/4 it's full output (you hear about this a lot with humbuckers, as it's a more true single coil tone than just shutting off one coil, known as a split). The idea behind lowering the output is to give a clearing tone with more highs! It's pretty sweet sounding! Think of going from a regular Strat tone to a lower output one, like John Mayer's, at the pull of a knob.

I actually just ordered in the Antiquities for my Tele.
I like the idea someone mentioned about making the 3 way switch to have 3 settings for Tone, and the Tone kno to be the pickup blending instead. Is there a wiring diagram for this and do i need any other parts to do that?

As far as I know you're describing a Fender Esquire (assuming there's only the bridge pup). Duncan has a few Esquire wiring diagrams on the SD site (even the one for his own Esquire).

We'll see. I could order a 4-way when I order new push/pulls. Phase reversal would be fun, too, but with 2 DPDT pots and a 4-way the tele's control cavity is going to be pretty stuffed and there won't be much room on the control plate for another switch.

A tapped pickup is a pickup that has a wire connected to a certain part of the pickup wind to use that percentage of the pickup. IOW, let's say you have a pickup and it's tapped at about 60%. When you flip your little switch or engage the push/pull pot, you now get 60% of the pickup instead of the whole pickup. A lot of players do this with Quarter-Pounders and Hot Model single coils. It makes the pickup a little weaker in output.
What tapped isn't is split. Split can only occur in a side-by-side or stacked humbucker. In a single-coil, there's nothing to split.

Anyone know if you can get replacement output jack? I have a Planet Waves Circuit Breaker cable and it doesn't let the whole cable in (because of the back part of the plug, not the part that goes in).

I see, I'm just loking for one that will fit a Tele's output jack but wont prevent the Planet waves cable from going all the way in.
