How does one go about removing slugs from a humbucker?

I feel kinda stupid asking this question, I will admit that much.
I just want to experiment with double screws.
Bonus Question: Where can I get invader style screws? If you don't have direct link, dimensions would be appreciated.

Re: How does one go about removing slugs from a humbucker?

Screw and slug bobbins are different, the screw bobbin have a thread for the screw, the slug have only the hole to put the screw and those are a tight fit.

Does it answer your question..?

Yep. Get a second pup. Hyem. One double screw one double pole

As long as they aren't glued in you can just push them out with a screwdriver. However the diameter is different and the slug holes aren't threaded.

Re: How does one go about removing slugs from a humbucker?

Isn't the wire coil wound directly around the slugs? It is in a Strat pickup (don't know about a humbucker) and you'll tear up that winding and ruin the pickup if you try to remove the slugs in a Fender style pickup. Maybe you can get away with it in a humbucker - but I wouldn't mess with it.

This works, but you need to reapply it after prolonged rain...

With most single coils you can also replace the magnets buy pushing them out with a screwdriver. Unless the are glued in place. It is an easy way to upgrade a OEM pickup with a bottom loaded ceramic into a more usable Alnico.

I took apart a cheapo import pickup to learn on and the slugs pop right out if you push from under through the ole there is the plate with the small screwdriver, the only thing that was holding the poles was wax

Don't know the dimensions, but Invader screws and the fatter dimarzio screws will go into a slug coil.

Re: How does one go about removing slugs from a humbucker?

Tap them out with a nail punch. Install a keeper bar below for the new screws.

10-32 headless hex screws might thread into a slug hole.
I have them in stock if you'd like some.

Re: How does one go about removing slugs from a humbucker?

Invader poles are 10-32# and fit exactly in slug holes. I usually go the other way though converting invader poles to hex poles.

Ya the deal is, I put a A8 in a '59/custom hybrid, with one row of hex screws, and it is super tight and Djenty. I want a little less Djent so I am thinking of putting one row of invader type screws where the slugs are.

I found the invader style screws on McMaster.com, item number 91255A265
For them to fit, they can only be 1/2 inch long, because the holes on the base plate aren't wide enough to for them to protrude through.

Or you can use spacers under the magnet and coils. I have a set of Invader screws that I'm not using by the way.
