The scalloped fretboard doesn't make you any faster. It will most likely slow you down and Yngwie is the first one to say that. It's just easier for bending strings. Some good moveis are Frank Gambale's Chopbuilder, and Speed picking and hot licks. Also, the book Speed Mechanics for lead guitar is very helpful. That's a good shredder base to start, now there's just countless practice hours and dedication to put in.

I can't beleive I forgot Troy Stetina's book. That book kills Rock Discipline and is one of the reasons I can play lead so well after two years of playing. I beleive the scallopped fret board does make you play faster because it forces you to be light handed.

Check out the book "Flying Fingers." I've got it, and it's great for building speed. Check out any tips on 'economy picking' - I suck at it, but it's how most of the pros go so fast. Always start slow, and build up, using a metronome.
