How easy is a Pedal Transplant?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
I want to extract the contents of one pedal and transplant them to another. Can this be done. Don't say "Depends" I know that!

Obviously putting a Metal Zone inside a Phase 90 is gonna be tough/Impossible. But what about a roughly same sized three knob one switch pedal into another?

Re: How easy is a Pedal Transplant?

Shouldn't be hard at all, given that you have the same (or bigger) size enclosure.
Depending on your skills, reconnecting everything (especially the ground connections) may be a bit tricky...other than that it should be a piece of cake, especially if everything from the "giving" pedal goes into a completely empty enclosure.

Re: How easy is a Pedal Transplant?

It's a minimum 36-hour operation. The anesthesiologist alone is about $90k.

Re: How easy is a Pedal Transplant?

Depends

Would you care to specify what pedal will be going into what enclosure? Jeez

Re: How easy is a Pedal Transplant?

DEPENDS. Some have pots that are built into the circuit board pretty solid-like, so you may need the exact same hole pattern, down to the millimetre.

Why bother when a couple of wires from the pot to the circuit board will do.

Success of the gut transplant "depends" mostly on the dimensions of the circuit board. What's obviously obvious, is if it won't fit, it won't. Some pedals like a lot of Boss and Ibanez will have a specific switch and bypass system which would make the guts of a 3PDT true bypass pedal quite tricky to use their stock enclosures and switching. It's not totally impossible, but most probably you won't be able to make it work just by yourself.

Most pedals constructed like this will have pots meant to mount to the circuit board - ie they don't have terminals to solder to.

Re: How easy is a Pedal Transplant?

I did this with my MI AUDIO Crunchbox. I wanted to have the internal trimpot accessable on the 'outside'. Bought a pot wired it where the trimpot was and transferred everything into a Hammond box. Piece of cake !

Re: How easy is a Pedal Transplant?

IF you do it; Make a diagram of how it's connected to all plugs and things FIRST.
Then do what you have to do to trans plant it and reconnect.

You won't remember it otherwise, unless you have a photographic memory.

You might find that a few close-up hi-res digital "before" photos could save the day, too.

Re: How easy is a Pedal Transplant?

Yes, you can swap the old broken guts of your old broken pedal into an identical new model case and return it to GC for a refund. Sheesh, some people's kids, gotta tell 'em which end piss comes out of next...

What if you have a photogenic memory:?:

What if you have a photogenic memory:?:

It won't make any differrence. I'm not working on the pedal. I can't see it.
It's the OP's brain that's the concern here.
Having a semi photographic memory is helpfull, I know, I was like that before the brain dead state sank in.

2:30AM AEST.Edit;I don't believe it. A TV show I'm watching just had a chic with " a photogenic memory ". Old TV show too .

I've bought a lot of pedals just for the knobs and boxes. If you have the soldering skills why not?

Re: How easy is a Pedal Transplant?

Just remember - the pedal will still sound the same regardless of what kind of enclosure you put it into.

Re: How easy is a Pedal Transplant?

I think Ace is trolling you guys, because he hasn't replied even once.
