how far away from the strings is your JB?

after reading a few recent posts i was wondering how far away people are putting the Jb from the strings. I get a good sound but i will always try something new to make it sound even better. I have an rg-550 and use alot of trem which is the reason at the moment i don't have it extremely close. it is about two nickles away from the strings. That's where i have found it to sound the best but that doesn't mean i have ruled out any other placements

I like my bridge humbuckers close to the strings. I adjust the polepieces almost flat, then hold the strings down at the highest fret and adjust the pickup so the E string polepieces are about 1/16" away for the high E and a little further away for the low E.

i just brought it up around where you said to and on my fender rock pro 1000 it sounded great but i will have to wait and check it out on the marshall next band practice because i haven't been using the fender that often so i can't really remember how it sounded before on it.

it sounded really crisp i hope it's not just the difference in the amp.

I do a lot of picking around the brige pickup, and don't like that scraping sound you get of the pick on the string, plus the pup can get in the way, so I keep my pups fairly low. Plus, it lets more of the guitar's natural tone through. For the RG550, this may not be a Good Thing, tho. Pickup height will definetely affect your sustain, tho. I use a LOT of gain, and this has never been a problem, however.
