I always give my guitars a cleaning when I change strings but by that time, they are pretty grimy. I just caught my white Les Paul in the light, and it looked like someone used it you eat their lunch on. Typically, after a gig or practice, the guitar goes right back into the gig bag or case. I should wipe it down first but that rarely happens.

I gave the Les Paul a cleaning, but it was absolutely filthy.

How often do you clean, and polish your guitars?

If I'm being really real, the truth is somewhere between "when I notice it is filthy" and "I like it dirty and never clean it". A couple of my more recent guitars are gloss finish and I notice the dust more. My #1 has enough cosmetic wear that a bit of extra grime may function as a protective layer.

Idgaf about how clean it is or isn’t but I will clean the frets and board during string changes.

Edit: and threaded adjustment-type stuff. It sucks when everything is corroded in place.

Wipe down after gig, clean at string changes a bit and clean like crazy during my yearly big service to my gigging guitars.

Maybe a bit of dust on the headstocks under the strings and between the bridges and the bridge humbucker rings. That's about as bad as I tend to let them get..

i occasionally wipe em down if i notice they are getting funky but its not a big concern. grab it, gig it, bring it home, grab it, gig it, bring it home, etc...

I use Doc Simons Miracle Guitar Polish which smells great and is miles better than the old Martin polish.

For those who categorically do not clean you guitars,......do you also not clean your car steering wheel ? or house door handles?

As in, is this behavior of not cleaning something you handle often limited to a guitar thing or is it more of a larger lifestyle thing?

curious

People are often amazed at how clean my house is. Most single guys live in a pigsty, my house is spotless. I clean my steering wheel when I clean my car, less often in the winter, I am not washing and cleaning a car in zero-degree temps. In Winter months I just run it through the car wash to get the salt off.

...and I do have to edit my claim. I do wipe down the neck and fretboard BEFORE playing. I clean the stings with Fast Fret, put a bit of baby powder on my left palm, and wipe the back of the neck with a microfiber cloth before digging in. It is just when I am done playing, I am generally wiped out and want to put the guitar in the gig bag and get home. The body of the guitar gets detailed when I change strings or if I walk past it and notice it is filthy.

Haha, i was going to ask next if those who do not clean their guitars, also not wash their hands before and after handling their d*ck? and if not do they realize they are completing a dick to guitar to dick germ culture...... and is this the secret of their toanz?

i eat a lot of spicy food, frequently hand held, i always wash my hands before and after handling
