How Good Are Line 6 Distortion Pedals?

Re: How Good Are Line 6 Distortion Pedals?

Good and Line 6 are sort of oil and water. Unless you like overly compressed fizzy nu metal tones, of which the Uber Metal can deliver

L6 honestly isn't half bad when it comes to some modulation effects, but their distortions sound as bad as their amps

I used to think the same way but have been hearing some great recordings done with Line 6 lately. It's peaking my interest but prob never buy one.

Re: How Good Are Line 6 Distortion Pedals?

I imagine they're not bad. I used to have a line 6 spider head and I thought the "metal" channel wasn't bad at all for what the amp is. I know the uber metal has the "metal" distortion along with others including the "insane" which I found a little too overbearing. The song "Energy Turtle" in my profile was done mostly with the "metal" distortion but the cleaner stuff at the beginning is a classic 30.

If you like the L6 sound (I find it definately passable for clean and high gain) then the pedals will do that sound. If you are looking for verge-of-breakup, vintage amp sounds, look elsewhere. ;)

Tried the DM4 once... not very organic or warm sounding, sounded cold and digital to me.

Re: How Good Are Line 6 Distortion Pedals?

The EDGE uses a DM4 for some weird over the top distortion but has a lot of other much better pedals he uses for majority of drive sounds so I'm assuming the DM-4 isnt too good for a lot.

You do know that Seymour plays through a Line 6 - right? :laugh2:

Ur right. No way would I try to get good overdrive tone with something like this. I'm looking strictly for distortion sounds. I have a buttload of overdrives! I have OD pedals coming out of my ears! What I need to find is flexible distortion pedal that sounds good. I don't like any of the dist pedals I tried. Boss, Digitech etc. you name it I tried it and don't like any of them.

Thats because Boss, Digitech etc don't make good pedals. DS-1 can be decent with a mod but any of the new Boss, Digitech etc designs sound utter rubbish

Given your taste for uber expensive PRS guitars and some very high end amps, what or earth would be you being with Digitech pedals in the first place ? lol

Check out some of the offering from MI Audio, Damage Control, Radial, etc if your seeking some quality distortion sounds.

Aw man! That was a low blow :cussing: LOL

You might be suprised that I don't actually buy ANYTHING based on price! I'm not above using a modded DS1 or something of the sort.

I have tested several of the brands you suggest. MI Audio stuff was good but either muddy or compresed for my taste. Radial makes nice stuff but I don't like tube pedals. Have not tried Damage Control but I think their top pedals have tubes too.

I'm kinda old fashined. I don't get fancy with gear beyond a good pedal, good amp, and good guitar. My pedalboard is simple. Only use 2 or 3 pedals at a time. Chorus on cleans, delay on bluesy leads, and flanger on hard rock leads sometimes. I love vintage but not old vintage. Dusty amp heads from the 60's are not my thing!
