How hard would it be to make an eq pedal?

Re: How hard would it be to make an eq pedal?

Thanks mate, I think most of that has sunk into my thick skull. I have another question - people seem to use a stereo input jack for adding leds to a true bypass circuit. I have to assume you connect the led power circuit to one of the jacks & then it will only be connected once you plug in & the guitar cable plug itself breaches the gap between them.

The one problem I have with that is that surely you need the negative side of the stereo jack & not one of the longer ones - positive & whatever?

I know it's probably a piece of cake for everyone else but i've been reading/studying diagrams of a/b boxes & i've absorbed quite a bit of knowledge (for me) - I've been making a wiring diagram without looking at other peoples to test myself & the only thing I cant seem to figure out is the led power.

Here's what I have so far:

the "IN (STEREO)" 1/4" jack on the right - the only way I feel I can connect the circuit to power the leds (on the condition that a jack must be plugged in & not using power at all times) is by connecting it to the top of the 3 connections (one of the 2 larger) - but my circuit continues from the ground (bottom of the 3) connection of the stereo jack & I have to assume that means there is no connection.

I just cant work that out - I think i've got everything else right.

Re: How hard would it be to make an eq pedal?

so if the middle three poles are on all of the time, and you switch between the bottom three and top three with the switch. why not throw you effects in and out on two of the top three poles and throw a jumper on two of the bottom three poles, so that it looks just like a normal DPDT switch would,

(effect) in out
(jacks) in out
(jumper) jumper

but then on the top lug thats left throw in a 1k resistor or so leading to your 9v+. and then what you'll do with the remaining pole in the middle row is attach that to your + of the LED. so therefore, when the effect is switched on, so is your LED...b/c the v+ is running through the switch into the LED. don't mix up the LED pole with the v+ pole, that could be troublesome...it will short the pedal meaning your battery will get very hot quickly and it will also drain very quickly.

and to run two, just shoot em in parallel.

oh and that whole stereo jack, i forgot to to tell you to hook up the gnd end of the battery aparatus thing up to that third pole on the stereo jack. what will happen is that the gnd on the pedal (all grounds should be connected btw), will hook up with the - terminal on the battery or adapter and then the connection from + to - will be complete. when the gnd isn't attached the - terminal of the battery, nothing will happen. this is also why EMGs use a stereo jack, to conserve battery life.

Re: How hard would it be to make an eq pedal?

I just figured it would reduce noise by sending the unused jacks to ground rather than just passing them is all. I've been reading around + I think I actually got the stereo jack correct - the 3rd one connects to the ground tab aparently. I'l just have to test it and see now I guess.
