How High?

Here's a track I recorded with a trio I had a while back. The bassist moved to CT, and it ended, but we were getting kind of good.

Anyway...cut with a '78 LP Custom with stock pickups, and a Blue Tube OD pedal into a '68 Bassman. In the solo from 3:24 to 3:38, I had punched in with a Dano Fab OD...the next phrase cuts to the Blue Tube, and you'll hear the tone get squishier. The track gets cut off by soundclick's size limit, but you'll get the idea.

Three guesses what the tune's about, and the first two don't count...:smokin:

Re: How High?

I love it. It's maybe just a TAD too slow, might be better a bit faster, although not much.
The singer is really good, I like his voice a lot. Is it you?
It reminds me of late 80's/early 90's heavy rock bands like Skid Row or GNR, but with a more bluesy feel.
I like the solo although it would have sounded better if the bass was louder during it. Again, like I seem to say a lot on this section of the forum, nice tone! Must be all the Duncan pickups, but everyone on here seems to have good tone for the music they play.

Size limit? Is it a WMA file? If it's a WMA file I think that's why it has a limit on the size - otherwise it should work fine. Use Jodix to convert it to mp3 and upload again. :)

Re: How High?

Yeah, I also think the bass needs to be louder during the guitar solo ... only because there's no rhythm guitar to fill it up.

I like the feel of the song. I would claffify it as southern rock and the guitar playing reminds me of Dicky Betts!

Re: How High?

Yeah, it's me singing. Since I left cigarettes behind, it's gotten much better. We cut the vocal in the same huge room as the tracking, with an SM58

This was a demo version...raw tracks. Ed re-cut his parts into an Ampeg SVT sim and ran it through a mastering program, plus adding vocal harmonies. I'll contact him and upload the finished track this week.

It's amazing to me the difference it makes. I know it's a decent tune, but after he got done with it, it shines much more.

Re: How High?

Ninja Monkey likes this.

I'm lovin' the tone, the words, the way they're sung, it's got a nice chill yet happy feel that's just awesome.

I can't wait to hear the finished track!

Re: How High?

Just found out from Ed that the hard drive with the master he made crashed. He now has to up load from the card and do it all over again. :banghead:

Good news is that he's going to re-do all the tracks we cut in the same manner, and we'll have an album worth of stuff to sell.

Re: How High?

lol

My voice sounds way funny to me. Much better in my own head.

It has a very honest rawness, and I like that. I can't tell how, but I prefer honest expressive singing to Highly technical singing. Ofcourse there are masters who mastered both and use their voices very effective and expressive, but it's not a common thing these days!
