How hotter a Super Distortion can be??

Hello brothers

I've got a Charvel superstrat with one Super distortion on bridge position, and it sounds really thick and with great presence for soloing and very balanced. By the way, I don't think it's a really hot pick up, which is very nice for me. I can play the blues and with more gain, get a really heavy distortion, but nothing "metal".
How does it can sound on the bridge of a Gibson Explorer? More open, full and loud? I'm thinking about to try it to get those 70's and 80's classic big rock sounds.

It will most likely be thicker and darker.

The only guy that comes to my mind that used Super D's in an Explorer (kind of) is Rick Nielsen with Cheap Trick. He had Dimarzio PAF's and Super Distortions in his Hamer Standards.

So I think it's not a very good idea?

I'm going to stick around with the 496R neck
but the 500T is too much for me.. I can't play nothing but metal with this pick up

Actually, I think a Super Distortion would work great in an Explorer through a Marshall.

I want to load the Charvel with EMGs, and the super distortion will be here just for tests..

As you said, there aren't many Explorer users with super d's, but many with Les Pauls
I was thinking about Dave Hlubek from Molly Hatchet and Rickey Medlocke (Blackfoot era), they both were Hamer Explorer players. I dig that southern rock tone from the late 70's, early 80's

Dean baby ML's...Ibanez Destroyer & Destroyer II's when he wasnt playing a Les Paul or SG... the Deans/Ibbys are basically explorers.

the (red) Destroyer II was his main axe for a few years.

That and his Les Paul w/ SuperD are quite possibly my fave metal/hard rock tones ever..currently..they definitely are.

If the guitar is naturally dark ...SuperD may be a bit too thick. If your Explorer has an Ebony board and/or naturally brighter...GO FOR IT!

Hamers have a maple cap and Def the SuperD will be a better fit for clarity apples to apples, but I wouldn't be afraid to try it in a non maple cap explorer unless it was naturally quite dark.
