How is Epiphone’s quality these days?

I am about to pull the trigger on a new guitar. I am going back and fourth between 2 epi’s. I can’t really try either one locally. So I was wondering what the general thought was on their quality now? The 2 I am looking at are the Brent hinds V and the inspired by 1955 les Paul.

Same as always. Pretty darn good for the price point, getting better all the time, and highly variable. New pickups will help, followed by better electronics, and maybe hardware. If needed...

But some of the higher end/custom stuff has been stellar. You talking about that Silverburst V? That thing is awesome.

The '55 LP Custom looks great. Tempting. Epi's quality has ben improving throughout the 2000's beginning with Grover tuners and full size pots. More consistency. In 2010 they went a PU upgrade program and have gradually been putting better PU's across their product line. The market got competitive and they stepped up their game.

I have a 60 Tibute Plus L.P. I like it, feels good, plays good. It is stock, sounds good to me.

I got a 2007 Dot Deluxe recently. It’s in rotation with an ‘87 USA Standard Strat and a ‘62 LP/SG (not RI) with real PAFs, and gets played as often as the others, if that means anything.

I agree, their quality is very good for the money. I have a few, and I'm pretty damn happy with 'em. I swapped the pickups, of course, but I did that on my Gibson LP too

I hit the local stores a couple years back, not looking to buy but just to see what was up since I'd been on a gear hiatus. I checked out quite a few Epi's after pretty much not touching one in well over a decade. I too was impressed with how they had stepped it up. I think I posted about it back then. I'd rather buy in person but the consistency and quality was pretty good. My only gripe would be that some of them are a bit heavy on the plastic coating.

Thanks guys now I just have to decided which one I want to go with. Both will do what I want even though they are completely different. I’ve never owned a V before so I’m not sure I would get along with one.

"V" is really not my thing, but that LP is a good one. It can cover a lot of tonal territory.

I have never owned a bad Epiphone. The Pro series are absolutely the best bang for the buck imo.

I have an Epiphone Joe Bonnamassa with Burstbuckers and it is, quite literally, the greatest Les Paul in the world.

Had a 2007 LPC that I put a Gibson 498T in and it was an incredible guitar. I would still have it if it wasn’t for two things....

1. Headstock shape ...shallow, but still it bothers me.

2. Fretboard Inlays...they look off somehow...kinda like tinfoil almost. Also very shallow.

I absolutely LOVED the neck carve!

Yep...it’s true, and I recognize it, but aesthetics that bug me just gnaw at my brain!

Also, those are major visual elements about a guitar. The only way for me to get past them would be to pay for a very expensive headstock reshape and inlay replacement.

Again - to each his own. But playability/sound was obviously more than adequate. Lest we forget the Gibson "aged" trapezoid inlays....AKA defective yellow crap inlays.

I readily admit to being quite the persnickety fellow. Playability and sound on my 2007 Epi LPC with Gibson pickup was quite fantastic actually.

Regarding Gibson aged inlays...agreed...those inlays were freaking hideous!!!!!!!

I bought myself a 1977 Aria Pro II LPC...built to 70’s Gibson specs (materials, pancake body and neck carve), but with poly finish and long neck tenon. It’s an incredible guitar that I love love LOVE!!!!!!!
