how is the little '59 in the bridge of a strat?

Re: how is the little '59 in the bridge of a strat?

The Hot rails is a lot darker sounding. The Lil' 59er like it's big brother the 59'er is very open and bright sounding but still has some vintage warmth. I got one in the bridge of my #1 strat for around 10 years now. Luv it.:D

Hmmm yeah because I'm finding the hot rails to be a bit dark and not have quite enough treble or bite to it.

you still using 250k pots??? the hot rails needs 500k pots IMO or it sounds real muddy.

IMO I don't think there is a better single-coil sized bucker than the Little '59. It's made for use with 250k pots, matches up really well with Strat pickups (stock or otherwise). And it can be very diverse, although the diversity comes more with the rest of the rig than anything. But it can do country, it can do rock, it can do old school metal. I love it. Or in foamy speak, I <3 it. :D

Hows the lil 59 compared to the big bro 59? what is it missing or what does it add or have??? any comments besides "its just different" lol:banana:

I've been using a lil59 in my strat for about a year now. It is a really good pickup. In my guitar it is a bit bright and thin sometimes, but I have a maple neck. It has great midrangy honk that I dig. I can't quite make it work for hard rock or metal on my guitar, but it works great for classic rock, blues, etc. I think it would be suited better to a darker guitar. Even SD says the lil59 works best in a rosewoode necked guitar...

The Little 59 doesn't sample as wide of an area of the string as a full sized 59 so it doesn't sound quite as big and deep or as loud.

Plus it's just differant. The Little 59 uses differant wire, and a ceramic magnet is glued to the underside of the coils whereas the full sized 59 uses an alnico 5 magnet. IMO, they are similar mostly in name...but the Little 59 is a great solution for those looking to get as much as possible of the tone of a full sized humbucker in a smaller Strat pickup size.

It's brighter with less mids and a little lower output, than the JB JR.

+1

I had a Lil '59 in the bridge position of my Strat for a couple of years and it was excellent. If your Strat is wired so that it has a tone control on the bridge pickup, then it will do all the styles of which ErikH speaks - and more! It made my Strat a viable gigging backup for my LP, but also versatile in many other ways. I only took it out when I acquired another LP and wanted to return the Strat to stock look/sound. Having said that, I've never got on well with Strat bridge pups so the Lil '59 could easily go back in there.

Great pickup! :beerchug:
