How it Feels to be Home (New, relaxed, instrumental)

Got home from college a couple days ago for winter break and man, it feels so good to be home. So, fluid and relaxed. I attempted to capture that feeling in this song. 2 guitars - both:
Strat -> Memory Man with Hazarai -> Bandmaster -> Univox 2x15 close mic'd

The clean guitar had the bandmaster's built in tremolo and a pitch bent delay

the distorted guitar had no tremolo but a reverse delay, distortion was a plugin in Ableton

the keys were a wurlitzer kontakt plugin from hispasonic.

The drums were built in Ableton 808 sounds.

I'm very happy with the result, brings the feeling of being home with friends and family.

p.s. I kind of stole the drum beat and click track from one of my earlier songs "Relaxed"

Really like it!

Thanks, this is a bit of a throwback to my older material, with newer stuff mixed in.

What do you think of the guitar tone? The mic isn't the best so, I'm not sure. Thinking about upgrading....

Re: How it Feels to be Home (New, relaxed, instrumental)

I like the clean tone quite a bit. The distorted tone sounds like an old Tacam Portastudio with the trim all the way up! ;)

Mics are a great tool and many can alter your tone (for better or worse), but I think far too much importance is put on microphones. It's more in how the mic is used than the mic itself. I have a lot of microphones and the ones I keep coming back to for guitar are the old tried and true SM57 and e609.

Awesome job, Marc! Really diggin this one :) I used a e906 mic and it is really awesome, much better for me than a SM57. But I have to say that your tones really fit this song, so there's no need to change anything, I think :)

I guess I'd like to have a little more response and presence in my mic. Is the lack of this a product of my mic or my subpar interface (Lexicon Lambda)

That is the 64,000 Dollar question!
Some ppl believe the source is everything ... some say the mic ... others, the interface/recording quality.
