How It's Made - Godin Guitars

I've got a serious itch for a Godin guitar right now, probably a Freeway Classic. Since I just sold my HM Strat, I've got funds locked and loaded for this purchase. I'll share photos as soon as I can get my hands on a Freeway Classic. At some point, I would LOVE to have a Flat Five X as well. Simply because I just can't quite afford the Gibson 335 1988 Guitar of the month I've always wanted - the last one I saw was over $2000.00. 2g's for a guitar is money I should be saving for a house.

Anyways, I've tried to record this on my Tivo several times, but stupid things keep happening that prevent me from seeing the actual show. So here they are - excerpts from "How it's made" at the Godin Guitar factory. These videos cover both the Seagull acoustics and the Godin Electric guitars:

i love those shows.... and i'm a huge Godin fan... i have a Solidac... i'd love to get an LGXT and one of the new XTSA's....

Amen. There is an absolutely SICK LGXT 3 voice, Cognac Burst on Ebay right now. I'm sure that the reserve is at least $1000, possibly more. This one looks to be in excellent condition. How about that mirror cognac burst finish? Absolutely stunning.

Of course, this had to be the year I DON'T get a tax refund. Bastards.

ya that is the finnish i love... my Solidac is close to that finnish but the LGXT's have a slightly better and nicer finnish for sure

For the money, it is very hard to beat a Godin. Even the lower end one's are very nice. Our Canadian brothers have one-up'd us on these. I have owned 2 and they were both very good guitars.

What really makes the Godin's for me special, with mahogany necks like the LG, Solidac, XTSA, and LGX and LGXT lines is the whole designs are really well thought out...

i love the mahogany necks feel, the tilt back headstock but the strings go straight to the tuners for less friction, the fretting and nut cuts are almost always flawless... Plus i love their bolt on neck fit to the body.

The finishes and wood working are almost always flawless! I saw one LG that had a minor body shape issue other then that most of it is amazing work...

the hardware Godin tends to use is good stuff!!! I prefer the trem guitars with the LR Braggs piezo bridges but the string thru and tune-o-matic set ups are great for tone... they use some nice locking tuners on their trem guitars!

one weird thing they do on their more expensive trem guitars but it works welll!!!! they glue a black foam on either side of the trem block... it is stiff enough to stop bridge flutter but squeezes up out of the way when using the trem.....

and the multi-use multi sounds of most of their axes is a real treat

kind of odd that they didn't mention Ash or Alder as body woods. Cool vids regardless.

they don't use those woods much if at all..... most of their current strat style bodies are maple centers, with Poplar Wings and a figured maple top..... great bright sounding bodies... my Solidac has the same wood combo and it's great!!!! but the Mahogany neck on it mellows the tone a bit i guess....

some of the newer more expensive models w/strat style bodies are being made of cedar and spruce woods..... that is kind of interesting stuff... there is a video of them on www.godinguitars.com

mostly Godin seems to use Maples, Poplar, and Mahogany woods..... And un-like Gibson they do not charge you $500 more for a nice top

I have a lg humb and a sdxt ( that is not discontinued), both with duncans and 2 voiced. It was cool to see how they are made, very interesting. Godin guitars are one of the most underated guitars imo.

Re: How It's Made - Godin Guitars

I own a Solidac and a few of the associated acoustics. Awesome guitars. The Solidac has really good acoustic tone, awesome neck, really playable, great looks, and the price was right. HOwever the bass is a little muddy. the body is Solid Silverleaf Maple, the neck is mahogony with a rosewood fretboard. Anyone have any ideas on how to clean up the muddy bass? I play out of a Blues Jr. and an AER. I also got it used so maybe the quality of the sodler joints isn't awesome. Any advice?

I've got a cheaper Godin . . . an Exit 22 that is simply a great guitar. The Godin that makes me GAS a lot though is this one:

PURE SEXY!

Re: How It's Made - Godin Guitars

The best guitar I've ever bought for the lowest amount of money is my LG P-90. It's in new condition with HSC, and I found it in the GC used section for $175. It plays great and the SD SP-90's sound beautiful.
