How long does your guitar sustain for?

let's do an expiriment.

put your ear up to the body of the guitar and hit the A string, open. dont hit it too soft or too hard.

count in seconds for how long the note can be heard and post your results.

mine later.

Indefinitely... In fact I can still hear notes I played years ago!:smack:

Re: How long does your guitar sustain for?

15-16 seconds until the sound drops off. 20-21 seconds total until it is completly inaudible.

This is pretty comparable to my guitar. what guitar was yours?

I counted 18 seconds for the sound to drop off and 22 for it to just be vibrations.

Long enough. I like to play fast, so I don't sustain notes too long. When I do sustain, it's always while bending or with vibrato, or both. Sustaining notes all the time gets old to listen to. Do you need to rest your fingers? :14:

David Gilmour scoffs at you.

Re: How long does your guitar sustain for?

26 to 27 seconds till the note ceases to be recognizable as an A. About 10 more seconds of barely audible vibration.

It's an incredibly resonant guitar. I can feel it shaking the hell out of my chest when I'm playing it. (Who knew that a free tit massage was one of the features?) Fender CS Esquire, swamp ash, one-piece maple neck, .042 Ernie Ball A string probably about 6 to 8 months old. I wonder if new strings would sustain longer or shorter.

Tested another one that I had lying around. '05 MIM Strat: 35 seconds. Alder body, Super Vee Bladerunner and Sperzel lockers. That surprised me, because I have never thought of this guitar as being particularly resonant. Maybe all the aluminum aftermarket parts have something to do with it.
