That said, I had a Hamer w/a JBb/59n combo. I had a bit of a love/hate thing going with the JB. It sounded pretty cool straight into some of the older amps I had, especially a 78 Hiwatt through GB RI spkrs...that was the classic sound of old school hard rock!

On the amps w/more modern voicing, though, it hit me w/that icepick thing. Even an amp such as a friend's Marshall JMP MkII gave me a bit of that icepick. In addition, for me, it didn't clean up well.

I never tried the JB w/250k pots.

I eventually replaced the JB w/a Custom 5, which I have found suits my style better. The C5 doesn't split as well though!

I've had the JB in a few guitars. The right amp makes a huge difference as well, but I suppose that's with any setup. Personally, I've liked the JB more in "classic" style guitars than more modern. I've never liked it in any superstrat type of guitar like Jackson or Charvel, however I loved it in a 73 Les Paul Deluxe and 68 Epiphone Casino.

I lurves my JB's. Especially the JB-J's. There ain't another passive around that can cut and still have a decent amount of low-end. Takes some setup and patience, but the payoff is worth it!

I've had one for years in a Jackson superstrat. I use it when I need thick and aggressive tones. It has a distinctive midrange voicing that makes it really stand out for lead playing. Rhythm can sound too honky on some amps. I find that it also splits fairly well making an interesting spanky tone.

Yeah, it does have an interesting coil split tone. Certainly nothing classic Strat-worthy, but cool nonetheless.

I have one JB, from the 80's, and it's in my 1988 Kramer Baretta. That is where the JB belongs. It didn't sound right to me in anything else but that Baretta and I've played it in alder Strats, Les Pauls and basswood guitars. Didn't really like it in any of them, except the JB Jr. does sound pretty good in basswood and alder. Slap the JB in a maple body though and it just works.

count it! Happy JB user right here. I love that thing. It's got push, but it's not over the top. A nice tone with attack, but without being attacking. Plus it splits well.

Have one (stock) in my Hamer mirage with no intention of ever taking it out. Love it

I've had guitars since 1985, but have only had a JB in a Jackson SL2H for a year. This tone is to die for. An 80's metalhead's dream come true.

Funny you mention that. Whenever I'm dicking around with a Tool song, it just sounds exactly like it on my rig.

I like it on my Washburn PT-60. I didn't even know that guitar has a push-pull tone knob until I saw a review elsewhere.:eyecrazy:

JB is one of my favorites... Sounds good in practically everything :)

Great for lead work and magnificent for hard rock riffing :)

My main guitar is a Gibson SG Junior '63 and I've had the JB in the bridge for about 10 years. It's an awesome pickup. As others have said it can be really aggressive but it cleans up really well and split it gets great single coil sounds which in my guitar sound closer to a Tele than a Strat. I played a gig with it last night with my new Cornford Roadhouse combo and I was in tone heaven. I've often wondered what a different p/u would sound like but this is so good I don't think I could improve on it.
