How many of you have actually adjusted the pole pieces on you pups?

I just raised my B string pole piece and lowered the G, low E, and A on my Wolfgang and it really balanced it out.

The G was really overpowering the B and the low E and A were both sort of drowning out the high notes.

First time I've ever messed with 'em and like I said, it really evened them all out. :dance:

Yup... Always mess with the heights till I get it sounding the way I like it.

I always play with the general height of the pickup for a few days, then when I decide what I want to fine tune, I start messing with the individual polepieces. There is a lot to be gained from tweaking them.

Took the word right out of my mouth ... But you forgot the exclamation point.
I really wish most stacked (humcancelling) single coils had adjustable poles as well.

Re: How many of you have actually adjusted the pole pieces on you pups?

excuse me for my noobishness, but how do these adjustments work to balance out the sound? poles closer to the strings do one things, further do something else? an explanation would be greatly appreciated. thanks

closer=louder and tighter
further=quieter, smoother

That's the exact reason I got started!

Re: How many of you have actually adjusted the pole pieces on you pups?

I ALWAYS use my polepieces to get an even response form all the strings after setting the basic pup height.

Assuming they´re adjustable, of course ;)

Don't try this at home, but years ago, I, as did many others, pushed up the two middle pole pieces of a '79 Strat pickup (yes, I knew the risk at the time)-- fortunatley, it still works and sounds great. :)
