... do rails really make? The reason I'm asking is I was curious about an Invader with rails rather than caps. Is there enough of a difference to actually call the Custom Shop for a quote?

It will sound different. But the "purpose" of the rails is to keep a constant magnetic field to pick up the vibrations. This, an hinted at, the Invader already has in spades. That´s why there´s no TB-8, but only the SH-8.
