How much range does a jazzmaster trem have?

Re: How much range does a jazzmaster trem have?

Picking up my Squier VM Jazzmaster with an MIJ vibrato set up so the mid-point is the lock button - and keep in mind any vibrato will bend the bass strings more than the treble:

-Low E downbends to the A# beneath low E, so six half steps
-Low E up-bends to G# so five half steps
-High E downbends to D so two half steps
-High E up-bends to F so one half step

For what it’s worth that’s using nines. You’d prob. get more range with thicker strings. I’ll have to pull it out of the case but I believe my Jaguar has greater range using an AVRI vibrato; Will check if you want. You can have a LOT of downbend range if you set to eliminate up-bend.

That's actually more range than I thought.

The short answer is ‘equal to or a bit more than a Strat trem’ - Depends of course on other factors of your setup.

If you really want to divebomb use a Mustang vibrato though :D

Yeah, me too!

I was playing a tele with a bigsby recently and was kinda impressed with the range that the trem had . . . much more than I had thought. Maybe not as much as I want for leads though. I've been spoiled by using a Floyd.
