as trade-in money, for my les paul studio plus desert burst 03'?

it's in VERY good shape. hardly any dings, almost mint. does need a set-up. almost looks brand new, like when i got it.

any ideas?

Re: how much would GC give me?

I don't know what they'd give you, but it'd probably be a fair price. I was getting rid of a '69 Fender Mustang (vintage, not reissue), and the best price everybody offered was $300 or $350 (as a trade in). Guitar Center gave me $500, whether or not I traded it.

Re: how much would GC give me?

Trust me, GC and most music stores are going to rape you with any kind of trade in. What are you looking to get out of it? What are you interested in trading it for?

Re: how much would GC give me?

The book value on my 'stang was $600. GC gave me five. They're the only ones who didn't try to rape me :D

Re: how much would GC give me?

Ideally try to sell it to someone who will play it.

Any guitar store will try to buy your guitar for cheaper then they can sell it. Why not sell it for th price they would probably turn around and sell it for?

Re: how much would GC give me?

looking to trade it in for a guitar with a faster neck... and maybe an amp? not sure... i don't want to get raped too hard on a trade-in. i might as well keep the guitar if i was to lose too much money...

i bought it from that same guitar center for 1500... didn't even talk the salesman down on price, because i was never told of that EVER, until i bought my guitar. ahhh what to do, what to do...

Re: how much would GC give me?

if you live close to a GC, then you likely can sell it yourself and do better

search Ebay to find the real going street price, then call GC and see how close they are ;)

I hate to say this but, non of the Music Stores out there including GC will give you a fair trade. They can not sell used gear as new therefore they would offer you the lowest possible trade for your gear to gain profit no matter what it is. They will always go with the current market resale or trade in value of the item (Blue Book). Your best bet is sell it to an individual buyer ( ebay, gear auction, paper ad, etc. ) and not to a store/shop.

Re: how much would GC give me?

As a former employee, I can tell you they will give about half of what they will sell it for. The individual market for your area, the stock they have, and the demand in that area for the given piece will determine what they will sell it for. Chances are with the Mustang, they wanted to build up their vintage collection. Stores will buy vintage gear, even if they don't think they can selling it. It kind of adds to the atmosphere.

I'd call that a one in a million from my experiences.

This is like trading in a used car on a new one. You'll get hosed.

Try to find someone that will take it in on consignment. You pay them a fixed fee to sell it and you collect the money when it sells.

Or sell it here or on Ebay.

GC will probably not be your best bet, although there is a box of Kleenexes near the door on the way out. :smack:

Re: how much would GC give me?

DO NOT SELL USED TO GC!!! THEY WILL GIVE YOU AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE!!!

GC's thing on used gear is to pay give someone about 1/4 of the retail price (and thats in a best-case scenario) and then mark it up to double what they paid you for. So you get hosed and GC makes a ****load of money. Don't do it.

Examples...
$500 for a Les Paul Standard
$25 for a Squier
$20 or less for most pedals
$150 for a blues jr.

I KNOW this for a fact as i used to work for them. I always felt bad buying kid's pedals from them knowing they could've gotten triple that on ebay.

The answer to this question is always the same:

Not enough.

I concur. Guitar Center (like any other music store) is in it to buy cheap and sell expensive.

Oh man I learned the hard way....DON'T DO IT!

Seriously use Ebay. If I used Ebay.....sheesh I would have saved some cash.

I traded in a Charvel Avenger....Peavey studio pro 112......5 Boss pedals which were the power, octave, Delay, Chorus, Superfeedback Distortion With the snap in pedal case. Also a case for the guitar....For my line 6 FBV...Retailed about 329 Dollars. Man that was not worth it. I might have gotton that much for the Quitar alone off ebay!

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DOOOOOOO IT! :dammit:

Did I mention I FEEL Stupid and Cheated and Raped! Um my own fault though I just had my mind bent on owning the thing as versatile as it is.

GC has no idea what vintage stuff is worth. Sometimes they pay way more than they should because they think it has more value than it does. In most cases they will not give you a fair trade.

In a lot of cases they have used gear way over priced. I was just in GC last week. They had a Used Bogner Shive EL34 1 12" combo for 2499. You can buy a new one for less than that! A few miles away I saw in another store the same amp for $1499. I don't think they deliberatley try to rape people, I don't think they know :smack:

How can that be dangerous? You're the seller, you don't take any risks as you get to choose which type of payment the buyer will use. Paypal and Money Order ( good as cash ) are safe. You do not send the buyer the guitar until you get the payment, it's that simple. You can ask your Dad or your Mom to do it for you. They'll be the one to sign up to ebay so they can sell your guitar. They don't have to give you their credit card because they can just do it for you. They will be the one doing the transactions with the buyer.

YES!!! go ebay. I just put my les paul classic that has a lot of upgrades on ebay and I set a buy it now at $1300 shipped and it sold in 2 hours! I almost put that guitar on this forum for $1100 shipped but I did'nt because I didn't think I'd get any hits. Just don't be lazy by taking the easy way out and getting screwed.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
