How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

Hey guys. I'm looking at buying a Crate Vintage Club 20 (the first in the series, before the 30 and 50). This came first, then the VC 30 and 50, then the V15, etc. and then then Palominos. They are all made by Ampeg.

The one I'm looking at locally plays incredibly, and has a brand new set of Groove Tube Power tubes installed. What do you think is fair? This thing is pretty much comparable to a Vintage Club 30, so you could just give me a 'quote' for that. Thanks!

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

So I didn't realize how old these things are! But Harmony-Central has nothing but fantastic things to say. If I buy it, I'll upgrade the speaker. But it's got just what I need, and nothing I don't.

Apparently, this thing craves Alnico 2 pups! This is a GREAT thing for me, with my A2P/CC combo. Looking forward to this amp!

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

I've played the 2x12 version of that amp and thought it was great. Two channels with seperate controls tone and reverb. And they are a real bargain I've seen two of the 2x12 versions going for about $400 in stores. So I'm guesing for the 1x12 between $250 to $300. But for a private sale maybe as low as $200??

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

I don't know what it might be worth, but do remember trying one out in a music store (a long time ago) and thinking the damn little thing sounded great.

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

I had a woody for one of these about a year and a half ago. Watched them on Ebay quite a bit. They typically were going for $130-$185 back then. I suspect they sound good without any upgrades.

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

Those things are cool. Sold a ton of 'em when I worked in a music shop when they were still in production. I remember their tone being very nice and big. What I'm not sure about is their reliability but I don't recall one being returned to the store for any reason.

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

Awesome. Well I just dropped $200 on it! Thanks guys!

I may have spent a little much, but I don't think so. It's got a 9 on sound from harmony, and it's got everything I need, inc. reverb. I wish it had more than 1 channnel, but that's what Boss Distortion is for!

Thanks!

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

no way man, you got a great deal! that's a killer amp for that kind of cheese!

I still have the 2x12 VC5212..can't get myself to get rid of it! it's a great amp! lost it's handle, and logo, and it's just beat to hell, but still sounds *fantastic!*

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

Spiffy! I'm a happy panda now. I mean I know it's a great amp, I just hate to overpay. But thanks dude!

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

Nah, $200's a bargain. I mean they'll probably never get overly inflated and collectible, but you should ALWAYS be able to break even or profit for $200.

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

Thanks dude! Yeah, I mean if I don't like this, I can always sell it back for at least $180 or so, and then I am halfway towards a Hot Rod Deluxe!

I've been searching for an amp for a while now, and it was between a Peavey Classic 30, a Hot Rod Deluxe, a Vintage Club 30 and a Crate V1512. The Vintage Club 30 is by far the highest rated on harmony, but I liked the Hot Rod Deluxe and the V1512. Then this came along, cheaper than all of them and just as good (if not better than some). So I'm VERY pleased (especially with the awesome tubes he put in last week).

I'm thinking of a speaker upgrade though. We'll see!

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

I'm the guy who said I priced them at $135-180 and I definetly don't think you overpaid. feel good about it. Those prices were from a couple years ago and the bottom end probably didn't have reverb and probably had some cosmetic issues(unlike myself....I'm drop dead gorgeous). I think you will love it. Now I want one again. I'll give you $100 for yours.

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

lol thanks dude!

I hope the reverb isn't absolute **** (I wasn't able to really try it). I hope it's enough to pump out some decent surf rock. Besides that though, this thing is a mini-beast. Not a full fledged Twin Reverb or anything, but a little beast. I love it!

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

Not sure about surf rock, but should be plenty of EL84 grit on tap.

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

Don't confuse what I said - I don't play surf rock. I just know that reverb is used very prominently with stuff like the Ventures, etc. And I want something with respectable reverb, not necessarily world class though.

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

I have that amp, the Crate Vintage Club 20, but in black. I don't care for the reverb, but it's better than not having any at all.

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

If I remember correctly, there's not a ton of reverb like a Twin or Deluxe Reverb would have, but it's better than nothing and does wetten the sound nicely. They have short reverb tanks. I bet a reverb tank swap for a larger one would give you a bigger reverb sound. It just depends on if the bigger tanks will fit in that amp.

Re: How much would you pay for a Crate Vintage Club 20?

How much do bigger tanks cost, roughly? I mean I know the prices must vary wildly, but I'm just looking for a range for a decent new tank.

Thanks!
