How much would you pay for this Les Paul

Hi guys,

I’m slightly tempted by this guitar. Even thought it may play and sound great, it looks hideous. It says “Standard” on the truss rod cover, buy from the red matte finish, it looks like an studio faded to me. The owner had the “#%^** idea to nail thumbtacks on the top and even dare to call it a “unique item”. So I would consider it at a very low price as a project to work on, sand a repaint at least.

Here are some pics.

Yeah, that seems like a studio, a ruined one probably from China. That 2013 stamp looks pretty damn suspicious. It has studio tuners though. $225 US, at most. They can be found as promotion guitars and stripped for that much without the tack holes.

Re: How much would you pay for this Les Paul

I don't follow studios super close but the gold Gibson inlay on the headstock seems wrong. Color, size, everything about it looks wonky

Hole-E moron Batman.

Looks legit. Pretty sure that's a LPJ. Not a luthier or even much of a carpenter but that looks like it would take some work to fill all those holes let alone re-finishing afterward. Personally, unless it was dirt cheap, I'd pass.

Re: How much would you pay for this Les Paul

I tend to agree - my Spidey-sense is tingling.

1. Gibsun logo perhaps?
2. 2013 Model? I don't remember seeing those full year stamps
3. Definitely at BEST a Studio

I would absolutely do my due diligence on verifying it is even Gibson, and the model.

I'm just gonna say this: Looks kinda cool at a distance for maybe a Judas Priest tribute band or something. Kinda Metal IMO. You could always remove and easily fill and refinish any flat color. Or play British Steel and wear leather pants when playing.

If real: I'll go $450. Fake: $250

Thanks a lot guys! I also don’t remember Studio Fadeds from 2013. Was the the year in which all LPs came with etune?

It’s on Ricardo (Swiss eBay) he’s accepting offers from 655CHF and buy it now price of 715CHF. (Let’s say 1CHF=1USD) it’s been there a while, so I doubt anyone will buy it at that price.

Here’s the link

2013 LPJ ... pickups were either replaced or covered with nickel covers. Or, maybe some models came with nickel covered pups. And a "Standard" truss rod cover was installed.

I wouldn't pay anything for it. It's pretty damn ugly.

Re: How much would you pay for this Les Paul

For $650 I can find a clean one....

Yeah man, I'm 99% it's a legit Gibson because the headstock wings rarely lie & the G in the logo isn't angled but even so for that price I'd pass. If you shop around you should be able to find the same model or perhaps something newer or better quality & unmolested for that or less....

FWIW I got this perfectly mint 2017 L.P. Tribute basically brand new with a hard case for $625...

The neck angel was perfect, the fret work was great, low action with no buzz, it feels great, & there was absolutely no tacks, LOL!!! The only thing I didn't like about it was the stock 490T/490R humbuckers that came in it. I dropped in a SH-16 Custom Hybrid into the bridge & a Phat Cat in the neck as well as a new harness, now it's the best Lester I own!!!!

Re: How much would you pay for this Les Paul

Yea my studio has serial number and date on the headstock

It's probably a faded or LPJ as noted
If that kinda thing is your thing the around $500 is fair
If you want it with no tacks
Then much less

Asian copies can be had for less than $200 for the record

Re: How much would you pay for this Les Paul

Just one thing to consider, those tacks will get uglier with time. Depending on the water content of the wood and your local climate, some might start to get a looser fit and fall out. It might be tricky to take them out when you first get it as well. Not to mention all your hand goop that will get on them with age.

And depending on how much you believe wood effects tone, the metal tacks might effect your tone.

Re: How much would you pay for this Les Paul

I like the way they added weight to a Les Paul and make it look tacky

Re: How much would you pay for this Les Paul

2015 was robot tuners on all models. They epicly sucked, every one I picked up had dead batteries or didn't work as advertised.

Re: How much would you pay for this Les Paul

Holy hell, someone bedazzled it with thumbtacks. I'd offer $250 if it is a legit Gibson. He probably won't be able to sell it for more than that.

I thought they came with 61 zebras, I actually want to try those PUPs...

The seller does not know the exact pickups model, but claims they are original as he bought it from a place he trusts.

I’ll see if I can get the price down low, very low, or I’ll pass.

Not only that, if someone is willing to do that to a guitar , what else have they done you cant see.
