i was breaking a string almost every single band practice (2-3 times a week). and it wasn't uncommon for me to break more than one string per practice. i most often break the 'A' string. i have a pretty heavy right hand, so that may have to do with it.

I think we can safely rule out your pounding right hand as being the cause.

Well, it wasn't as soon as I expected, but I actually broke a string last night, the high e, while loosening it to raise the bridge. Figures.
