but if I ever get a bass, I'd probably clean it as often as I clean my guitars.

I wipe it down about every other time I pick it up, but I really clean it every time I change the strings.

Never. I'd rather keep it dirty and play the hell out of it than make sure it never gets dirty or scratched and never really let loose while playing.

I usually clean it when I change the strings. I'll pull off the strings and knobs, and then use the Zymol Bb Polish for the satin finish of the body and GHS Gorgomyte for the neck and fretboard.
Still doesn't stop the finish from having glossy spots from where my fingers are usually anchored, but it keeps it clean. Somewhat.

when I do the quarterly string change i'll do the deep clean, but every few weeks or so I'll wipe the body down if it's a bit finger-printed.

If I just briefly take the bass out of the case and play it for a short time, I might skip it.
If I record a bass track in the summer and I'm sweating while playing (I tend to skimp on energy bills so I can have more gear money), then the bass is definitely going to get wiped after I'm done, and the strings will get wiped with one of those special string cleaner cloths.
Lately I've been putting coated strings on the basses too, because I figure as infrequently as I get around to playing any of my basses, I'm better off leaving a set of strings on it that I can use for a few years before putting new ones on.
