How old is my peavey bandit???

LP's for life

hey guys
i have a Peavey Bandit 112.. ive had her for a while but for ages ive been wondering how old she is.. i had to do some work on the spring reverb unit a while back so i tracked down a bandit schematic to 1989.. i think i am about the 3rd owner. it is the old peavey blue face design with the two metal strips either side of the cab.. and is loaded with a factory fitted scorpion 12''

any help/schematics would be awsome!!!!

thanks guys

Re: How old is my peavey bandit???

a photo would help us.... but from what you describe of the cabnet design it sounds like the late 80's Bandit

hey whofan.. this isnt my baby.. but its exactly the same model. would you say it was an '89??

Re: How old is my peavey bandit???

cool! thanks guys i take it she is an 89! just another quick question..on the later bandit models (with the last two models mostly in mind) ive seen that your able to put a cab under it... but on mine i dont seem to have the right jack at the back.... can someone tell me if this is actually possible on this amp? cos i have seen matching cabs.

my best guess is it is from 1987-89... but that is just a guess.... it looks just like the Bandit models i was trying to buy in that time period and some my friends owned....

but part of me thinks it could be later like 1991 for some reason... could be wrong

Re: How old is my peavey bandit???

ps-Peavey's on-line tech support is amazing... you could send them that photo and i'm sure their main tech dude could nail down year for you

Re: How old is my peavey bandit???

i tried peaveys support system... i even gave them the serial number but they didnt get back to me.. would say its from a line that went over about 4 years but i know peavey seem to change their look every year (this model especially).. i think they've currently gone a bit overboard on the 'joe satriani' look.
needless to say it is a fantastic amp.. no newage modelling crap.. real spring reverb... all i need is a tube model thats extendable and i'd be set for life..(although the old 'supersat' gain circuit is amazing)

Re: How old is my peavey bandit???

Try again. Peavey usually responds quickly.

Do you have a speaker output/ext. cab jack on the back of the amp? That is where you plug in the external cab.

Hey I don't mean to hijack, but do any of you peavey Guru's know anything about a Peavey Butcher? A friend of mine got one for free. It was collecting dust in some guy's storage. It works but a couple of the tubes are busted. This this amp head any good?

I think they only made the Butcher for one year, two at most. It was supposed to be a "Marshall Killer"--120 WRMS, with a 4x6L6 output. It was preceded by the Rock Master amp (they later had a terrific rack-mount preamp of the same name); and replaced by by the VTM 60 and VTM 120 amps. The VTMs had a little more flexibility with their DIP switches on the front panel that allowed you to "mod" the amp to your taste.

The distortion and crunch tones on all of these amps are just fair to decent, but if you want something loud and clean to run pedals through they'll work great. They're relatively bullet-proof, and usually very simple to fix when they do go bad.

They have a slightly attenuated top end response (by design); and a punchy, fat mid-range. In comparison to many Fenders, they can sound a bit "veiled" or muffled--but they will have a typically smooth distortion when pushed.

As to being "Marshall killers", well, the Marshall stack is still going strong--while the Peavey Butchers are the Queens of the pawn shops. Like all Peavey, they are reliable; and they do offer good performance for a good value.
