How thick is your Strat neck?

Is 0.78" at the first fret to 0.86" thin for a Strat neck? I'm trying to get the measurements of different Strat series (MIM, MIA, AV, Vintage Hot Rod, etc.).

I'm actually trying to find out if there's a Stratocaster that has a neck similar to say...a '59 Les Paul carve.

i'm not done yet, but ive measured about half of my necks. so far ive been suprised at the variation.

.78 is thin! but 0.78-0.86 is about the taper. i havent seen any les paul measurements except the jimmy page one, which is in 0.8-0.88 range (its actually thinner at the 5th fret than the nut)

was your neck made in the 90's?

I don't know about '59 Les Paul, but Fender has what they call the No-neck from the custom shop. Pretty freaking big - 1" I think all the way down. Probably feels a little smaller than the '59 LP as Fender Necks tend to be narrower.

My strat neck is from USACG, I chose their "The '54" profile. It's a soft V that tapers up to a C around the 9th-12th fret. It starts at about .850" thick at the first fret, and .900" around the 12th.

.78 is thin, real thin in fact...

59 Les Pauls (and all vintage Gibsons) are all over the map in terms of neck thicknes but as a general rule 59's had a fatter neck than say a 1960 but still not as fat as say a 58.

I have a 1 inch thick neck on my Cleveland Broadcaster and it is a little deeper than my 2005 58 reissue Les Paul but not but too much...

My MIJ '62RI has a neck that's very similar in feel and size as my VOs '60 LP, which, oddly enough, is pretty much the same (IMHO), as a LP Std's 59 carve.

This is all IMO, YMMV, and all that.

my skinnest is about .860 to .940 but my favorites are 1" all the way down. i have one that is 1.05" that tapers to 1.15"

Let's see.

My '94 American Standard is the typical medium C. Not too thick but not a twig either.
My Frankenstrat has a baseball bat.....1" the entire length, boat contour from Warmoth.
The Iron Maiden Sig Strat (CIJ) is about a medium C, maybe shaved down just a little bit.
The Korean Strat is the thinnest. Not sure of the dimensions. It's still comfortable.

ive got a CBS type neck... i think its prob 1" all the way down. I LOVE it... especially the small radius... no problem bending for me... i think thats more of an issue of technique.

I'm not sure exactly the dimensions of my Strat's neck, and I sent D!ck his calipers back, but it is one of the the last of the American Standard necks and the neck feels pretty generic.

My Cleveland Guitars strat is going to be right under an inch.

mine's .89 at the headstock / neck volute area to 1.01 where the neck meets the body, nice, chunky neck IMHO

Yeah I always thought my neck was like a slightly bigger Ibanez Wizard...a little rounder though. Just confirming suspicions...I guess this is the Fender neck referred to in Dan Erlewine's books by the Fender CS guys as the "modern" profile. Don't quote me on it though because I read that thing a year ago...

It's a 2002/2003 MIM Fender Tom Delonge.

Funny thing is, most Strats I've played don't really have what I would call a thick neck. Not even close to say, 55 Tele neck. Are those 1" all the way?

i dunno my 07 MIM strat is .842, the 99 am std is .786, which is just about the thinnest

My2008 MIA Strat neck is .860. at first fret and tapers to about .890 a little out of spec I think but comfy!!

a '55 tele neck is probably a little smaller than 1" all the way down, maybe .920 to .980

Not nearly thick enough!

My 1996 MIA Strat, maple neck and board, is so thin I can't hardly play it now that I am used to the PRS Wide-Fat (huge-tastic) and the 335.

Strat almost feels like a shred neck, but narrow. It's tiny all around.

luke is getting a great thick neck on his strat and it comes in, just like he said, at just a little under an inch, right now it is .98. it will get a little bit smaller yet but should be about .95-.96 with a very slight taper.

I still love the feel of that neck you have Christian.
