Everytime i hear these songs and some others from The black Keys it makes its way to my soul. I like themes from almost every genre, but this music is the one that gets me trapped like a poor fly. It is not only the music but also that "broken" fat bass muffled sound, (how would you call this kind of sound). Ive also noticed he is carring a brass slide is that having anything to do.

If i want to read and learn in that direction for my next guitar, which kind of Pickups and Guitar we are talking to get that sound at its best.

Ive lurked Dan Auerbach and it seems he is a fan of old vintage specialty guitars, like the Harmony HHH, and Supro ive seen in some pictures, or even some looking like Fender, even a Gibson. Very different guitars some even been hollow others not. (The not hollow one looking like a Fender sounds better to me maybe because of the bigger body mass may add more fat bass). But you guys know there is a sound for each kind of pickup and a ranking for each kind of guitar. Im not familiar with those kind of pickups. At least in the Supro page they talk abaout a Vista-Tone pickup, also in related searches it shows comments about a pickup called 59.

Search eBay for "Seymour Duncan for repair" then install it without repairing it first

Hey man, I'm a big-ish fan of The Black Keys and I can tell you that you don't really need any particular setup for Dan's sound. He messes around with different guitars a lot.

Unless you're doing Turn Blue stuff, it's mainly playing with gain and the setting of the amp.

That being said, I personally like using my Les Paul with the 59 set with a 50s wiring. It gives the guitar a nice vintage sound. The neck pick up is exactly what you're looking for; the "fat bass muffled" sound. It works well with songs like Thickfreakness. Just need to roll of the tone knob a bit maybe. The lead is good for the solo stuff and some of the cleaner crunch like I Got Mine.

Check Reverb for used sets. I found mine for $95 and their covers are nice and worn. Best of luck with your search!
