Yeah you need to brush up a bit on what actually defines an "active" pickup and how that relates to whats being said. In the end both are preamps of sorts though they were never designed to do exactly the same thing but categorically speaking they are in the same realm.
But this is still just a side argument to my point anyways. The BMP1 is not easily switchable. If someone is after a simple way to boost or mod the tone of their guitar and have the ability to switch it on and off at will i wouldn't recommend the BMP1.

You started talking about EMGs. Their boosters are just a passive preamp. They aren't more popular among EMG users (as I explained) because they do nothing that an external booster won't do + they add to the already existing hum. Passive users just go and install a hotter passive pup + there are cheaper alternatives (of equal or better quality) for on board boosting, like artec. I guess this answers to your question about their popularity. Makes more sense now?

Actually, I spoke at length with the designers of the afterburner and the BMP. Conclusion? Totally different devices. Yes, both boost the signal but the afterburner boosts only and nothing more. The BMP takes the signal from each individual coil, processes that and puts those signals, boosted, in parallel. The BMP imparts its own character into the tone whereas the afterburner just boosts the tone with little 'coloring'.

Just stop dude.... They are active preamps they have a freaking battery!!!!! that by its very self is the definition of "active" and not passive.
No one is talking about EMG pickup users. I was talking about adding them to passive pickups. How many people do you see using any sort of active add on to passive pickups? That arent bass players. Its pretty rare among guitar players and speaks more about biases toward active electronics in general.
