How to create my own backing

The title says it all. I would like to know what are some equipment options I need to consider in order to begin creating my own backings. All I have right now is a crappy score writer that can export to MIDI and Kareoke Files! LOL! Nobody has to tell me that its not up to the task!

Once again what are some options?

Re: How to create my own backing

A good drum program like drumkit from hell, and something like nuendo 2 to execute and map the beats. A decent soundcard too if you plan to record guitar and external midi.

Re: How to create my own backing

Yeah well my biggest concern is the MIDI crap. The default Synth that comes w/ Windows XP is sucky. Are there MIDI synths that have a closer approximation to real instruments. Everything sounds fake but a few of the piano voices and the freakin vibraphone.

I don't go MIDI at all.I have enough from it.
i use Ableton live 5 wich is the easiest and the effective way to use "wav" samples.Drag and drop..U can repitch them, play with the volume, and they fit automatically into your tempo !!!
I am really happy with my Line6 tone port ux2.
for the samples.Drumkit from hell and Battery 2 are my favourites. It takes about a minute to make a loop in abgleton live.you have typical copy paste options like in windows .It is fast ,easy and very good sounding. And use wavelab to make your own "samples".Cut ,copy ,paste, change all sound files as you wish!!!

Midi is simple. It's just data, nothing complicated.

It has a bit of a learning curve, like everything, but it's worth it. I honestly don't find it complicated at all, and I'm 15 years old. ;)

Re: How to create my own backing

Cool but I composing my stuff from my own scores, not sampling or cut and pasting. As a computer programmer I'm stuck doing contract work. So I'm either contracting (means I have a job) or computing (means I'm trying to figure out how to get a job)! Right now I'm computing! LOL! This means I can't afford to be paying for gadgets to hook up to my computer!

Right now I have two axes. One has a body and a neck. The other has a head, two arms, two legs, a nice rack and a juicy butt! That one is jealous of the other one!

Okay ,so you need MIDI ,but you do not have MIDI connection into your soundcard???It is hard to make music with computer without gadgets. You have 3 options.MIDI and MIDI controler...(100$ are neough)--A good sound interface with program(200$..line6 stuff)..--A little mixer ,one mic ,cable ,and recording program.(about 300$).so zhe 2.way is the only way to have good sound and good price in the same shot!!!

But its still midi, just faced of course with a sample

To put it bluntly, you cant record guitar and get results through the usual mobo quarter jack.
A gadget will be required to record guitar.

Backings are a diferent matter- you use midi to program everything. From drums, to synths, to choirs orchestras, bass, even guitars if you want lol.
