HOW TO FILTER ONE COIL ONLY F/HUMBCKR?

Re: HOW TO FILTER ONE COIL ONLY F/HUMBCKR?

Ha! Can't say I've done it, just musing around as I waited for my spaghetti to be done. So I might be wrong, at least on choosing the cap values. I used an old piece of paper to right it down and scanned it, a dude gave me some software to do these things correctly but I'm an old school guy who prefers paper.

I am working on a Varitone right now, with a really cool outta phase thing. I have realised that caps in parallel reduce highs and caps in series reduce lows.

As soon as I have enough time to finish it I will upload the results.

Not sure what you're doing exactly since all of the poles are connected electrically, each switch position will thus be the same...all caps are connected to each other in parallel the way it's diagramed.

Re: HOW TO FILTER ONE COIL ONLY F/HUMBCKR?

Well the diagram is a bit odd. Positions 1-3 will be identical, 4 is different and in 5 only one coil is actice, not the whole humbucker.

Here is the way I did it

That's the way to do it if you want just the one sound and don't want to adjust it. What I would do is at least install the cap to pot making it adjustable and the 5-way switch (wired correctly) is a very good idea if you want more room for adjustment.

Re: HOW TO FILTER ONE COIL ONLY F/HUMBCKR?

So i did plug it like the plan (c previous) works fine, but...

Put the circuit thought a switch, since I choose the south coil, the switch is
wired... normally the ground (green and bare of the pickup) goes to
ground of guitar, when switch the ground goes to a 250K pot connected
to a .022ufd cap and goes out to main ground.

Problem now that I get when putting the action switch to the circuit I
get hum and buzz at least 6db higher then normal noise.
If I play with the pot, I get more noise when attenuating the circuit.

Anybody have any clue, or maybe separate the bare wire from pickup and
go direct to ground and take the green to my circuit ?
thanks
