how to fix grounding problems? (yeah i should know this...)

one of my guitars has a hum but it goes away when you touch a metal part. ive seen the solution posted a million times, but i cant remember it right now :smack: anybody?

what kind of guitar are you talking about?

I have this problem with my strats, but that's life with single coils ... I don't even like shielding my strats because I'm convinced it robs some high end

I have thought about trying one of those guard shields, like Callaham makes, though

Im pretty sure you have a noisy pot. Try cleaning your pots that should help.

Check all your connections, make sure everythings grounded solidly.

its on my gunslinger, which has a single humbucker. so its not a single coil thing

If you touch the strings, bridge, other metal parts and it goes away ... it's normal ... although it shouldn't be a *loud* hum, just noise of sorts. Part of your hands should always be touching the guitar anyway, whether muting the strings, resting on the bridge etc. Same for the fretting hand if the plectrum hand isn't. What you describe here sounds normal.
