How to get more attack from tapping?????

Hi there!
I really need to know how to get more juice out of a pickup. In my case it's a wolfgang pickup and I just can't get that nice tapping sound not even with my tube amp maxed on distortion. The harmonics seem cool but the tapping seems so flat and week. Is there something that could help this? I have already tried to mix in pedals for more gain and that doesn't help just adds more muddy sound. Does a compressor help? I'm really out of ideas!
THX A LOT :saeek:

with me, just raising the action helped out. since you'd be using more force, it would seem to have better attack. at least for me.

I don't know that adding gain helps...it compresses the sound alot. I find that my best tapping sounds come with medium gain and clean technique. A 'breathing' tone is what I like, and lots of gain distorts this (no pun intended...heheh).

Technique is such a big part of tapping. It's why I can't do it. :smack:

But a cpmpressor would definately help you tap. You'll have to turn your gain down a little to keep noise under control though.

You MUST turn down the gain. It mushes out the tone big time.

I've found that a compressor really does help, try that out.

A compressor will help big time, but you might think about a hotter output pickup. Tapping is a form of hammer-on and therefore (obviously) doesn't have the same energy driving the string, so you can use all the gain you can get.

Re: How to get more attack from tapping?????

Try a compressor, adjust your technique to use your pick (I wouldn't recommended, you get more control IMO with your own fingers), or you could try raising your pickup a bit closer to the strings via the two screws on the side.
