How to get parents to pay for amp

Re: How to get parents to pay for amp

To simple, get a job and stop being lazy. I have the cash to buy nearly any guitar or amp I want... Its more the fact getting my parents to let me spend $2000 on a guitar. They seem to think my equipment is a bit over the top. But if you had a job and worked some decent hours you would enjoy your stuff a lot more then getting it, even if its only being half payed for. And a 65 watt traynor combo... I'm sorry dude but your 15, that just seems a little over the top. Anyways down to the grit just find a local job and work and say you'll pay your parents back or something.

I'm all for working to get the gear you want. Especially when it's helping your parents out. But I'm not against getting a real job either. Both will teach you responsibility and integrity.

On that note, I'm 27 and when I'm in dyer urge of stuff I want, I pick up extra hours or find odd jobs to do to make the extra money I need.

I work Overtime hours to pay for gear too.. Since i bought a new car i don't have much money at all! So when i saw a used MIM tele for $300 Canadian that also had a bunch of expensive aftermarket parts and pearloid pickguard on it, i had to have it..... But to help pay for it i had to work 2 complete Sundays.... Lats winter i worked at a music store for 6 weeks part time on the weekends... ended up buying a used Marshall 800 head for $500 and that took all the money i had made part time.....

I long for the day i could walk into a guitar shop and buy a Les Paul or a Boogie amp new... besides 2 guitars i own all my gear, amps, and guitars and effects have all been used and fixer uppers.... i just can't afford the GAS!

If you can help it, get money instead of gifts for any holidays. My relatives/parents stopped giving me gifts at age 12 or 13, so I just waited for a good deal.

Don't wanna be a troll here, but you got to sacrifice something in exchange for this amp. If not, your moral fibre will erode. Maybe paint all the barns on the prairie (as far as the eye can see)? Preferably dark red. Okay, let me have it...

The more difficult it is to get the amp, the more you'll like it, which kills GAS and saves you a lot of money and time in the long run. So +1 for working hard.

Re: How to get parents to pay for amp

I never liked having to do things for my parents for some sort of compensation, so beyond my first amp and guitar which they bought me, I haven't let them pay for anything since. I just worked full time all summer every summer and part time during the school year. Honestly, the amp you want isn't really that expensive. Doing normal jobs, it wouldn't take long to get enough cash to pay for it yourself.

Here's another tip - Real jobs usually pay better than parents in the long run anyway, especially if you have the type of parents that you will have a hard time convincing to lend you a couple hundred dollars.

Can't help 'ya. I'm the mid-life crisis dad that buys the guitars and amps for myself, then the kids just take it for their own. Good luck man!

Dude, forget all this "work for it" bull**** advice... just steal it.

Which one are you gonna appreciate more... flipping burgers while your Traynor gathers dust, or sitting at home playing? :D

Hey Motorboy,
When I was your age and was in the same situation, I drafted up a contract for my parents. I promised I'd wash and wax their cars every week, vacuum the house, and clean bathrooms, etc....you know chores not already on my chore list. I came up with a dollar amount for each task and extended the time frame as long as I needed for them to feel like I was working for it, and not just milking the system.
Which was fine for me since I never liked the idea of them "Buying" it for me. I just made sure they knew that this was a loan situation and they would see their money again.
Now.. this also goes a long way in gaining their trust for other things, like.... borrowing their car, etc...
Good luck,
Loudriver

That's an excellent idea and me being a parent, would respect that as a proposition.
