How to get tuners straight and alligned?

Re: How to get tuners straight and alligned?

Whale oil beef hooked. On my LP Standard, LP Junior Special and SG-X, some dangfool induhvidual has positioned the machineheads perpendicular to the centre line of the headstock. What is the world coming to?

Clearly whoever did that only thinks of using their fingers to turn them, and not a tool like the string winder.

So you're saying that thinking about turning the tuners is okay, but if one actually does turn them, that person is a tool ?

Outrageous!

Personally, I use thought transference. On bad days, I resort to one finger and one thumb.

Re: How to get tuners straight and alligned?

The button on a tuner should have adequate clearance from the headstock edge so that a mechanical string-winder (hand crank or drill mounted) may spin freely without coming into contact with the headstock. This means the tuner may have to be mounted at an angle to facilitate the proper clearance. If they're not parallel to the center strip or symmetrical with each other, TFS.
