How to make my white Pearly Gates look vintage or Cream?

Hi guys,

I bought a Duncan Pearly Gates, white. Installed the PUP but it doesn’t match the colors of my guitar, so I discovered that I needed it in cream, or vintage. So the question is, what kind of material should I use to paint the humbucker and make it look vintage or cream. To rub my dirty fingers doesn’t count!!

Haven't done it yet, but am thinking of using a brown shoe polish on my white PGs. That's why I too would appreciate the input.

I've heard of some guys soaking their bobbins or strat pickups covers in strong tea. Doesn't help you much, but just goes to show what'll work. I'd say just spill things on your favorite white (mug, shirt, toilet lid) and see what stains it a lovely vintage hue...

If you do shoe polish and it turns out too dark, I guess you can always buff the extra coloring off with fine steel wool. That outta make it look vintage.

I've tried brown shoe polish. It gives it an aged look but not really cream. Maybe you have to apply it many times over the course of days or weeks or something, but I didn't have the patience to go that long with it.

A lot of the plastics used today are designed to NOT discolor. I don't think you want to disassemble your entire pickup either. I tried everything (short of shoe polish) to make a trussrod cover white to cream. Nothing worked. I would suggest using the shoe polish.

use a can of dark mahogany stain..and you can adjust the tone with a cloth as you like for lighter, darker.
