how to put strings on Gotoh Machine Heads?

i tried to put a "B" string on my guitar for the first time today.
but i got a problem.
my guitar has a FLOYD ROSE, but i think it wasn't the problem.

this wasnt like my old guitar.
it didnt have a HOLE on the middle (but has on the top) of the "metal" thing
to put the string into.

and should i cut the string?
i know it doesnt need the "ball" thing, but besides?

What I do is pull the string tight, and then cut the string about an inch and a half or so past the tuning machine I want the string to go in. Then put the end of the string into the hole, bend the string to one side, and start winding.

What i do, is cut the string before hand, as i already know the emasurements of the string once in place, assuming your strat is similiar to my MIM strat, or most strat copies, like on my crappy jay truser who has similair enough, What i do is cut of the excess string ahead of time my measurements are
E- 17 cm ( cut off 17 cm before ptting it in the string post.)
A- 17 cm
D- 13 cm
G- 13 cm
B- 8 cm
e- 7 cm

oh no...
i think i cut 19 cm on the b string....big problems....
have to buy a new string today.....
