how to record with Line6 Pod-XT?

Hello.

I am a total newbie about sound recordings.

What I want it is, to use my Pod-XT to record to my computer.
I use it as "sound card" and it's connected to the PC with the USB cable.

The problem is, I get no sound. PC could not detect any noises.
I have selected this as my sound-card on my PC.

I guess I am connecting those wrong. it's like this:
guitar -> pod -> (with USB) -> PC.

Can someone help me? I could not find info on my manual about PC recording.
and I tried to search on google without any results. :banghead::eyecrazy:

If you want to use the POD that way, effectively it becomes your PCs soundcard and the speakers have to be connected to the POD.

I'm not too keen to that setup since I want my speakers connected to the pc.

but my PC could not detect any noises at all. should have been able to detect noises throught the USB even thought I don't have the speakers connected??

are there other ways to set this up?

Under the sounds, speech, and audio devices panel in the control panel, are the recording/playback drop-down menus both set to PODs?

No, don't bother with your soundcard.

The POD will have infinitely better converters and latency than any consumer sound card.

Careful with using the XT with USB. I had a problem (VERY widely known and line 6 doesn't acknowledge it much) where if you connect it to multiple computers you risk
1) the xt not communicating with ANY computer afterwards
2) ruining the firmware on the xt, forcing you to send it back for repair

I had option 1 happen to me and it wasn't fun. But thats through personal experience. I've never recorded using the USB before so I don't know what it sounds like. Lately I've been recording using a patch from the out straight to my sound card using a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. It needs a lot of EQ after that though

I bought a Bass POD XT live recently, but I'm now trying to sell it so I'm too afraid to try the USB again

Anyone else experience this?

Not that exactly, but I've seen a few USB devices hosed by being improperly disconnected from computers. Either the "safely remove hardware" Windows option or only removing the device from a sleeping/shut down computer will go a long way toward avoiding this.

Jeff (VK) has given the proper instructions. Follow them. To elaborate, if you are as computer savvy as I ( :laugh2: ). After connecting the POD:

1. Click on "Start"
2. Go to "Control Panels"--click it
3. In the Control Panel window, open "Sounds and Audio Devices"
4. Click on the "Audio" tab
5. Click on the pull-down arrow for "Sound Recording"
6. Click on "Line 6 POD xt Live"
7. Click on pull-down arrow for "Midi Music Playback"
8. Click on "Line 6 POD xt Live"
9. Click "OK"

When you are finished recording, remember to set the sound settings back to the soundcard.
